Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
i went to zari boutique a couple of months ago and to be honest i wasn’t impressed with her collection. she says she carries tazeen hassan, maria b. and nilofer shahid but when i went to the shop most of her collection was her own. she only had 1 or 2 maria b outfits that were very old designs from around 1998 (i know because i had actually bought one of the outfits she showed me in 1998). Plus her prices are way up there. She charges $300.00 for a shalwar kameez that has very little kaam.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
Hmmm… its been 3 years since i met her. Never seen the collection in person, she though was very well dressed.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
I’ve bought a few outfits from sila. There was this beautiful design called tanzanite nites or something like that. She doesn’t have it on the site anymore, so I’m glad I got it. It’s cobalt blue silk with an intricate paisley design in the fabric itself, the kameez has beautiful kaam of black beads on it and it’s finished with black piping
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
sila.com has nice stuff but some of their designs have been on the website for years. i wonder why they don't remove the old design?
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
some designs are really old, but they've taken away some others like the one I mentioned before. There was also this lovely olive colored gharara they had which they don't show anymore.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
i was in austin recently and wanted to visit their boutique but i think they only sell online. i've also ordered from them before. The outfit was not bad.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
Namkeen why dont you post a pic of your dress that you got from sila.com?
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
Yes i know i emailed them and asked them- they said that those pieces were their classic collection and are the most popular pieces so they will continue offering them as they are not dated by their style. Made sense.
Im ordering a piece called Aquamarine lux from them, its going to take 6 weeks but i will put up a pic as soon as i get it.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
both sheetal and Khazana are over priced.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
sooraj-mukhi - sure will, when I get a chance.
Is that Aquamarine piece up on their website? I must check it out
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
edison nj has lots of shops but i didn't like any of the clothes. they were very "indian" looking. you won't find anything nice if you prefer "pakistani" designs. one other thing sheetal doesn't sell all original designs. the owner actually has a tailor that makes some of the stuff and then she puts a "sheetal" label on it. so be careful because you might be paying hundreds of dollars for something thats not original.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
yeah i definitely agree…some lenghas at Khazana were like 2000 bucks. I was like I could book myself a $1000 ticket to Pakistan, buy an awesome lengha and other clothes, and it still would be less than $2000. All the boutiques in USA rip off people and make more than 50% profit on the clothes they sell here.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
Actually- we feel that we are being ripped off because we do not take into account any of the expenses any of the store/boutique owners may incurr to get the clothes over to the US/Canada plus any operational costs like utility bills, sales people pays, shop rent etc etc… Basic Economics and Business.

This was another outfit I bought, I got it in size small, but it was slightly bigger than I expected. Still it’s

Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
namkeen...nice outfits. i've never seen the purple one on the site. when did you get that one?
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
Meena, it’s not purple, it’s actually blue, well, tanzanite, to be exact, the shade depicted on this site: http://www.jewelrycentral.com/Target_Tanzanite.html
You’re right, they don’t have this on the site anymore. I bought it in July 2003.
I bought some others that are really nice too, but not available anymore.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
thats strange it looks purple on my monitor. Anyways, it's still a nice outfit. which other ones did you order. I was thinking about ordering the new outfit they have Peacock collection 1 but i'm not sure if the fit will be ok. So i asked my relatives in pakistan to get me clothes instead.
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
Wow there is a gorgeous new outfit on the site

This is an outfit I bought:

I have several other outfits from them but they’re not on the site anymore. I’ll take pics and put them up sometime. One of my favorite outfits is a shalwar kameez - I’m not a big on shalwar, I prefer trousers, but this one is very nicely made.
Meena - that outfit I posted looks purple because of the lighting, I expect. I took the pic at night. But the color is tanzanite alright.
The peacock collection
Femme - I was on Main Street this evening by the desi bazaar… did you visit those stores as planned?
Re: Boutiques/Jewelry in NY/NJ
Not yet. I actually discouraged my mother from going cos im the one who has to drive :D Besides its not like there will be much of a price difference. We can get Pakistani bridal lehngas as low as 1000 here, newer ones for 1200 or above. I doubt prices are a whole lot less in NY/NJ. Gold sets r sooo expensive. The ones we like are atleast 4-5 grands, somewhat heavy but not insanely heavy. I told her to go to Pakistan instead.
How did u like the stuff on main street?
