At what age did u stop bottle feeding your children??And how long it took them to get used to drinking ‘milk’ out of a cup/sippy cup??
I was talking to someone yesterday who was insistent that its perfectly fine for kids to be bottle fed till they are 5 or 6 yrs…although i am no mother but i very well know that its not true nor right…
most parents in usa stop using the bottle by age 2, pediatricians recommend that as kind of a cutoff date. I let mine have a bottle or 2, like at night time because they enjoyed it so much - till age 3. I kinda forgot to mention this to their doc, she would have gotten on my case about it lol!
The thing is supposedly about oral-motor development. Its a more advanced thing to drink from a sippy cup or straw and even more advanced to drink from a cup. So it aids in development of the muscles used in speech.
I'm not a mother but here is my observation.... in america I have seen parents get rid of the bottle as early as 1 yr...2 yrs max. It is uncommon to see american kids drinking out of a bottle after age 2. Drinking out of a bottle beyond that can cause the childs teeth to become out of line....correct me if im wrong mothers.
My nieces and nephews began drinking out of their sippy cups as early as 6 months old....started off with maybe only 1ounce and gradually increased it. If I recall correctly they completely stopped using their bottles before their 1st birthday.
Yes, here in the the US and even back home these days, some docs recommend that babies leave the bottle by 18 months latest. I used a bottle up until I was 3-4. My teeth are fine. I guess a lot of things change over the years...
its usually preferred that the child ,whether in the Us or in Pakistan, stops bottle feeding by 2 yrs of age...
I have seen people giving their kids bottles way above that age too...
I was talking to someone who has a 3 yr old daughter and somehow this thing came up,and she was ok if her daughter took the bottle till she started school.I asked what her pediatrician had said to her about it and she was like oh they let children have bottles till they are 5 or 6.And her excuse was that children don't drink milk after giving up the bottle so that was the only was to make them have milk....since it was useless to argue so that was the end of the discussion....
I don't have any motherhood experience ,but i very well know that this practice is not encouraged in any part of the world till the age of 6 yrs...!!

6 years?! seriously?
i mean i've seen kids as old as 4 or 5 still drinking from bottles..but isn't 6 pushing it a little?
i weaned by little one from the bottle by the time he was about a year and a half. by that time they should be old enough to hold the sippy cups and drink from them. they should even be able to start drinking from straws, so you could buy the kiddie cups that have attached straws to them.

My mom says I stopped drinking bottle at around 9 or 10 months.
but then a lot of pakistani kids i've seen are also spoon fed by their moms till they're 5 or 6 too (!!!)... maybe its just moms don't want to deal with the hassle of weaning them off?

I never used a bottle and formula milk, my children were breastfed until the age of 1 an a half year and when they were 1 year old I also started giving them fresh organic whole milk through a beaker and before the age of 2 they were drinking from a cup or glass by themselves.

That's true bottlefeeding causes tooth decay in children.
