I have always been very careful about the employments I choose … One of the biggest factors for me has always been the person that I report into… whether they are someone i can genuinely respect and turn to in difficult decisions …
What qualities do you look for in your manager ? and do you believe working under a competent manager can make you a better at what you do?
I’ve found that I learn more with a boss who provides positive criticism because I know which areas of my work needs to be improved. However, these bosses can be very cruel when it comes to changes in a person’s life e.g. pregnancy, illness etc. They have very high standards from everyone.
On the other hand, some managers are very friendly but don’t know how to maintain efficiency in the business and can become a bit slack with employees and their excuses.
yea true. But then I have left many jobs over the issue of a mean/slacking boss. I mean my last boss was horrendous. He expected me to work way after 5:00 pm and got really angry when I was late for work the next day i really really disliked him.
you just have to churn through them until you find the right fit
Same here Stardust , There was this particular boss ... and how i hated her , she was the screaming type .... and would get angry over the tiniest thing and literally killed my motivation to do anything at all !
especially the loner types. You know. the one's without boyfriends/husbands, with increasing layers of fat and a whole lotta bitterness. I worked with someone like that. absolutely hated it.
you mean that particular job with a nasty boss? .. yeah long time ago .. but i didnt leave because of the boss , i left coz i had to come back to the UK …
