Born Confused

Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier

Anyone read it? I started it a week ago and only upto the 3rd chapter. Usually in this amount of time I’m done witht he whole book.

Didnt really spark my interest yet.. anyone read it?
Recommend it?

iv heard its really good, but dnt have time to read normal books!! i have to read ****ty uni books

:flower1:

i haven’t heard of it. What is it about - sounds like something about identities, cultures, ‘belonging’ etc…

Sometimes, those kinda books get on my nerves, i don’t know why. i feel like the author is trying to make money off of the culture-identity card which has been played ad nauseum for so long. But, that doesn’t apply to all books - just a select few here and there and since i haven’t read this book, i don’t know if that book would fall into that category. Maybe, maybe not.

^^ thats exactly what I feel about this book. I usually dont pick up such books but so far its about a teenager tyring to be American and her mother keeping her Indian.

Same old crap

I think Im going to stop it..
I have Edward Said's memoir lined up anyway

i read it last year..it's too teeny...i didn't like it

i've seen most "confused" books/movies, like this one or bend it like beckham or watever deal with Hindus or Sikhs, nto too many Muslims..I'v eyet to read a good book about a Muslim Desi, without being classified as an "islamiC" book...

Anyone know any books?

yeh this book is def. too teeny bopperish.. and not to mention the author is totally confused...
she talks about being in the disco age and then makes ref. to current day things..

like SMS and something else that I cant remember.
