Are there any novels set in Pakistan, which are written in the English language?
Thanks,
I hope to read a selection of such books.
Also who are the main Pakistani authors in the English language?

Re: Books set in Pakistan
I've just started "Blasphemy" by Tehmina Durrani. Its set in pakistan. Not that bad.
Re: Books set in Pakistan
I havent heard of any of these ppl. I am feeling in that "literature mood", and have read some works by Indian Authors in English, and esp like Suketu Metha. I want to feel that Pakistani rhythm, to experience Pakistan thru pages until I can set foot there for real. (As a grown up).
Re: Books set in Pakistan
well in that case, don't read the novel I mentioned

Re: Books set in Pakistan
I recently read this book called A Letter from India-- it's actually a book of contemporary short stories from Pakistan, compiled/edited by Moazzam Sheikh. These stories are translated into English from thier original Urdu and Punjabi versions, and has works of writers such as Intizar Hussain, Ikramullah, Sorraya Khan etc. The ones that I liked were "The Barbarian and the Mule", a story about a young childs stance against his father's tormentors and opressors- by Moazzam Sheikh and "Jungle" by Ikramullah, relating how getting lost at night in a jungle led to a man becoming insane, eventually leading to his death. Was published in 2004.

Bapsi Sidhwa, her 'Ice Candy Man' was turned into a movie by Deepa Mehta and starred Amir Khan.
I also read this book by Nadeem Aslam called 'Map for Lost Lovers," about the Pakistani/South Asian community in the UK. A vividly descriptive, introspective style of writing..made for an interesting read. Umm you may not want to read this one though, it's not set in Pak.
Re: Books set in Pakistan
bapsi sidhwa's "The pakistani bride" also makes an interesting read.
Re: Books set in Pakistan
My Feudal Lord by Tehmina Durrani - good book in my opinion. Its about Tehmina and her marriage to a Pakistani politician (can't remember his name) and the way he treated her etc etc etc
