I have recently read the following books - The Holy Woman - and its sequel - Typhoon by Qasira Shahraz.
I really enjoyed reading the above books and found them difficult to put down ( so much so, that I finished the sequel after I returned from work the other day in one evening
“The Holy Woman is a powerful and compelling family drama. A romantic story of love and betrayal set in a wealthy Muslim community, with all the pressures and conflicts that modern life and old traditions bring.”
Anyone interested in putting an offer on the above books?
I too have read both these and they are indeed compelling reading. The first one is too good, but the sequel just blew my mind.May have to read them again.
Kulfai: I agree with you, an enjoyable and easy read.
CharmedOne: Both were really good, although I enjoyed reading the first one more! The way the characters are described completely drew me in..
Yes,you're right about that.I felt for the main character (can't remember her name) soo much.To go from being who and what she was to being who and what she became was such mind blowing experience.I wonder what I would have done in her place.
HI Girls, ooooo i absolutely loved these two books. I think they are amongst my favourite books. I loved her style of writing as well as her characterisation.
Have u read blasphemy and my feaudal lord by tehmina Khar? BLasphemy was a real eye opener for me, very moving and again well written.
there are alot of british indian books on the market but not as many pakistani ones.
The last book by a pakistani author i read was " a case full of exploding mangoes" which was absolutely hilarious!
My husband keeps threatening to throw my books out cuz they have taken over the house!
Mysti: love the idea of a book club.
I'v heard so much about the Holy Woman and been wanting to read it for a long time. Still haven't.
Brummie, I read "A case full of exploding mangoes" a few weeks back and loved it. Haven't read Blasphemy. I read My Feudal Lord a few years back. I won't say it was one of my favourite books, wasn't bad though.
we should start a book club on GS for all us avid readers..
Good idea...I'm in.
@brummiebird..read a review about the exploding mangoes, and have been meaning to get hold of it.
There was another book I read which was set in Pakistan ...about a girl whose father left some years ago and she works/studies with this guy who helps her find him.I think that was the story. Will dig deep in my memory and see if I can remember the title,as it was a good read.
This may sound strange.but...when I've read a really good book,I sometimes wish I hadn't,because now I won't have the pleasure of reading it....if you know what I mean.So....to all of you who haven't read these yet....you will sooo enjoy them,so go forth and get them now!!
No problemo! :-) I'll be posting another thread with several more books for sale. I have to admit they're not all mine...im helping a friend clear some space only to fill it up with more books! ;-)
That's a good idea I love books and I am always looking for something online to read I mostly just read the urdu digests online because I can't find any books like that online. I have read Shabanu Daughter of Wind and all of its sequels. What about Chitra Divakaruni her books are really good too.
