Books - Fiction

Looking for a good book…

Let me know of something nice and romantic.

I’m in the mood for romance. Something romantic and europish and taking place in the times of queens and kings and princes and princesses, etc.

Make-believe kingdoms will do fine.

Thanks!

PCG, send me your address. I'll ship (overnight delivery, of course) my autobiography to you.

PCG: You should definitely order a signed copy of Roman's book. "Memoirs of a Punjabi Geisha"...a look into the back rooms of Hira Mandi.

The best books are by Sharon Kay Penman and Barbara Erskine. The majority of these books occur between the 10th - 12th centuries. Although there is a bit of romance, it's mainly historical literature...dealing with real figures and events.

However, the stories are brilliantly written. Definitely fantastic story-telling...and when there is romance....it is intense and emotional!!!

My personal favourites are:

'When Christ and His Saints Slept' by Sharon Kay Penman. This novel is basically about how the Plantaganets came to rule England. When William the Conqueror died, he left England to his daughter, Maude. However, her cousin Stephen stole the throne from her (cause she was a woman and nobody wanted a woman as ruler of the Kingdom). There was a huge war between both parties which lasted for roughly around 20 years.....over the throne of England!! The wars devastated England and parts of France. Although it is quite action-packed, there is a romantic element to it since the story tells of how the wars affected people from the royal families, their love lives, how they had to choose sides, etc. Very intense reading!!

'Child of the Phoenix' is another favourite of mine by Barbara Erskine. This is more of a romance, but also deals with womens' rights and domestic violence during the 11th century (England). Basically, this story is about the daughter (Eleyne) of the Welsh King (Llewelyn) and how she was forced to marry various men throughout her life (cause she was a woman, and of course, women of status were not allowed any choices or to remain single). Her and the King of Scotland were lovers (eventhough both were married...but forced to stay apart cause of politics between England, Scotland and Wales). This is another fantastic novel which is hard to put down once you start reading it. Actually, this was the first book that ever made me cry.

I love reading!

Oooh, and another really good book is, 'The Memoirs of Cleopatra'. I can't remember who it is by though, but it details Cleopatra's life and her love affairs with Caesar and Mark Anthony.

This is a really good novel...brilliantly written.

PCG, if you like romance novels, you must read books by the following authors who will surely not disappoint:

Danielle Steele
Barbara Taylor Bradford
Victoria Holt
Jude Devereaux
Sidney Sheldon
Judith Krantz

Happy reading! :)

Philipa Carter.

Viictoria Holt.

Victoria Holt and Phiippia Carr...(not Carter)

are actually the same person..lol...not cousins.

oh no no none of that danielle steele ooh la la nonsense.

Something completely fictional though...i dont even want to know we're reading about mankind as we know it. No king of england...heck England should not even exist.

Complete FANTASY. Kinda like Lord of the Rings, or Hero of the Crown(its nowhere near as grand as LOTR, but its very nice -- although its grade-school reading)....I used to read so many fantasy books in grade school, but I've just never found their adult equivalent.

PCG-i love the fantasy genre also. that's very true. i had a friend that liked piers anthony books, i think that may be. But old school, i love the narnia books, and harry potter (tho i may be a little old for that) is fun stuff!

Mystery & Horror all the way :k:

oh my God i loved narnia!!!

sheeda massalli te sheedaan massalan, read this one, and tell me does it realy exist
