i started a similar thread a while ago as well.. khair i just finished reading rohinton mistry’s a fine balance. amazing book :k:
"Stone Cold" a good read ... forgot the authur though ....
huggggz i still feel it was my fault.
Definitely this time Insha’Allah the book will be chosen quicker, i agree with you on that. The trick is to pick the book relatively quickly, and once people see for themselves the interesting discussions in your thread, then more and more will gradually join up of their own accord Insha’Allah — but only once they see for themselves that the initiative’s actually taken off.
This time i’ll participate better, i promise Insha’Allah.
hmm nice thread. I remember way back Muni also started one.
Anyhow, would love to read and discuss a book. Though right now, I am reading 6 books... These are
Longitudes and Attitudes by Thomas Friedman
Culture and Imperialism by Edward Said
Jihad Inc., Samuel Berjen
Mirrors of Violence by Veena Dass ( this i was supposed to read for my ethnic conflict course, never got around doing that. So, now when I found it in my office library, I just grabbed it but I must say its a bit dry...
1984 by George Orwell
Shadow by Bob Woodward
Portrait in Sepia by Isabelle Allende (unfinished)
Taliban by Ahmad Rasheed ( left it unfinished)

I’ve heard a little about ‘1984’ by George Orwell
the ones i like reading in my spare time are along the lines of Sci-fi
‘Exiles of Colsec’ - i read that like 3/4 years ago
Autobiography of Nelson Mandella - really good read :k:
‘The Witch of Blackbird Pond’ - by E G Speares, about a girl that gets accused of being a witch, based in the times of ‘New England’
Stephen King, i just love reading ‘Cujo’ and ‘Rose Madder’, ‘On Writing’ is a really interesting read, especially for aspiring writers
anyone here read books by Mercedes Lackey??
I'm in! I think we should start with 1984 by Orwell as several people have already recommended

Stephan King - Dark Tower Series (Book 1 to 5)
Muhammad Asad - Road to Meccah
Sometimes a book has to be looked at from a-far, pour example, George Orwell wrote some philosophically astute stuff (much like ayan rand if a bit more true to home than we like to believe).
However as a book to read, it's not the easiest nor the most pleasureable. A couple of months down the line you will claim him to be a genius, which of course he was, and indeed is. (if that is possible)
On my part, I recommend "Rage" by Rushdie.
Whatever kind of prejudices you people may have, i find some of his work so breath-takingly beautiful that the sentence is an art itself.
I echo much of what Ravage has recommended, however Rushdies work, aside the satanic verses which were so badly written that it wasn't even mildly amusing given that they recieved the publicity that they did.
how about White Teeth?
Ive got the book but only touched 3-4 pages of it... anyone up for that?
i need an excuse to read
hiccup i've only read midnight's children and loved it. would love to try another.
i wouldnt mind readin Rushdie either.. i wanna see what the hype is all about..
The books I've loved are : the ground beneath her feet, and Rage. I'd recommend the latter for now though.
It may not be to everyones taste, but I loved it almost completely.
um
Sorry for asking, is there one book that has been decided?
Salman rushdie and rage (y)
