The short term approach is to defeat this fitnah through the use of force. Long term approach is to stop the extremist clerics from spreading the violence through khutbahs, and also by telling people the true teachings of Islam, which are being hijacked by these advocates of Evil.

The bombing at the Buratha mosque, which killed at least 13 and wounded 28, came during a four-hour midday curfew that the government imposed specifically to stop attacks on mosques.
The curfew is part of al-Maliki’s security plan, which also includes sending thousands of Iraqi and coalition forces into Baghdad’s streets to man checkpoints and target hot areas.
There were six police checkpoints leading to the mosque Friday.
Buratha’s imam, a leading Shiite politician, blamed al-Qaida in Iraq for the attack. He said the terror group was trying to reassert itself after the death of its leader in a U.S. airstrike last week.
“Al-Qaida is trying to restore some respect after the killing of the terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi by targeting one of the leading Shiite clerics, but they will fail,” said the imam, Jalal Eddin al-Sagheer.
CIVILIAN CASUALTIES BY NEW ZARQAWI RAHMATULLAH:
Baghdad’s Haraj and Kazimiya markets were both targeted, causing many civilian casualties.
Security checkpoints in Mahmudiya, a town 30km (20 miles) south of Baghdad, and in Baghdad’s Karrada district, were also hit - with many of the casualties reported to be civilians.
Others died when a device, possibly a roadside bomb, hit a bus in the al-Amin district of the city.
