**MINGORA: A teenaged suicide bomber blew himself up, killing ANP lawmaker Shamsher Ali Khan as he was seeing off guests who had come to his house here to offer Eid greetings on Tuesday. Shamsher Khan’s two brothers and nine other people were injured. **
The man with explosives strapped to his body had walked unchallenged into the Hujra of the MPA’s house, witnesses said.
Shamsher Khan died on the spot while his brothers Shaukat Ali Khan and Mohammad Ali Khan were injured.
The other injured were identified as Siddiq Akbar, Mohammad Shah, Rehmani Gul, Amjad, Siraj Khan, Mehar Shah, Shujaat Ali and Rozimand.
They were taken to Saidu hospital where condition of some of them was reported to be critical. Shamsher Khan was a seasoned politician and friends and local people affectionately called him as Dr Shamsher. He is the second ANP lawmaker killed by terrorists this year. Earlier, MPA Alamzeb Khan was killed by a roadside bomb blast in Peshawar.
Swat District police officer Qazi Ghulam Farooq and bomb disposal squad personnel reached the place and collected evidence.
According to the bomb disposal squad personnel, the bomber was about 18 years old, who had used nearly 10 kilograms of explosives.
Police found legs and other parts of the bomber’s body and whatever was left of the suicide vest.
Some people blamed inadequate security for the attack.
Agencies add: Senior police official Ali Khan said that the politician had been sitting on the lawn in front of his house receiving guests and local constituents when the young man rushed up to him.

‘His brother rushed to save the lawmaker but the bomber blew himself up before he could be prevented,’ the police official said.
Spin Zada, a doctor at a local government hospital, confirmed that the bodies of Shamsher Khan and the bomber had been brought to the hospital.
Swat was the focus of a fierce military offensive launched earlier this year to rid the one-time tourist paradise of Taliban terrorists.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the attack would not derail the government’s efforts against terrorists.
‘Such reprehensible acts can never defeat our resolve to root out terrorism and militancy,’ he said

Re: JI bomber kills ANP MPA

I am surprised the attacked got past the police deployed outside..the ANP has taken a serious losses by taking on the militants.

May Allah give Dr Shamshers family sabr and his soul peace.

I am more surprised how an unequivocally false title which casts egregious aspersions and is based on an irrational prejuidice against a mainstream political entity is allowed to be posted on this forum...

Re: JI bomber kills ANP MPA

i wont be surprised which ethnic terrorist organisation the thread opener supports.

Re: JI bomber kills ANP MPA

thats true the post title needs to be changed as it is factually incorrect.

I am sorry Zakk, I shouldn,t have used JI in the title but in realty, there is a war going on between JI and ANP in Malakand division. JI aligned its self with the Taliban long before the operartion was started and was busy killing and beheading ANP leaders and workers. Following the Army operation Pak Army is rounding up the JI workers who were responsible for beheading innocent people and security personnel.

In Malakand, regrading this indecent, no one will use the word Taliban but will say that JI killed the ANP MPA.

Please be careful before using the name of any Political Party in your post. Thanks for understanding that. I will edit the title.

Re: bomber kills ANP MPA

if LA-PAK really gets his way, this will be the prefered method of all minor arguement resolutions:

i'd like to see him tell the afghan pakhtuns to change their ways!

Re: bomber kills ANP MPA

In one of Shamshers last speeches in the NWFP assembly he made the comment that at times it appeared the head of the militants and the army was the same.

Militancy: ANP loses over 200 workers

Friday, December 04, 2009
Tauseef-ur-Rahman

PESHAWAR: The ruling Awami National Party (ANP) offered yet another sacrifice when its lawmaker from Swat, Dr Shamsher Ali Khan, was killed in a suicide bombing in his village Dheray Kanju on Tuesday.

According to figures compiled by the ANP, more than 200 party activists have been assassinated thus far in Swat. Some of its workers were also killed in militancy-affected Buner and Dir Lower districts and Malakand Agency, all part of the Malakand Division.

Shamsher Ali, a lawyer by profession, was the senior most ANP leader killed till date by the militants. He remained president of the ANP Swat chapter for 12 years. He also remained active in lawyers’ politics and was elected president of the Swat District Bar Association twice. He served as general secretary of the bar association thrice. The last office that he held was of the ANP provincial vice-president.

Shamsher Ali was elected to the provincial assembly from PF-83 (Swat) in the 2008 general elections. His constituency in Kabal tehsil, once a stronghold of the Swat militants, included villages of some of the top militant commanders.

He had to shift to Peshawar during the militancy era in Swat but his old father was adamant not to leave the village. His brothers and their families had to stay behind with their father. Some months ago the militants kidnapped Dr Shamsher Ali’s two brothers and a nephew. His nephew was killed but two brothers were released unharmed.

Following the return of peace to Swat, Dr Shamsher shifted to his native village and was celebrating his first Eid there. A young suicide bomber targeted him when he was receiving guests and exchanging Eid greetings with visitors.

Shamsher Ali started his political career as a student leader from the platform of the Pakhtun Students Federation, the ANP-affiliated student wing. Belonging to a respectable family of Kabal, he was known for his candid and people-friendly attitude.

The ANP has been the prime target of militants since the fight against militancy started and this time the insurgents again chose an ANP lawmaker. The party is fighting militancy with valour and has lost more than 200 workers and leaders in the fight against militancy and extremism across the province.

ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan was also targeted in a suicide attack at his hujra last year on the occasion of Eidul Azha while some of its provincial ministers were attacked several times by militants.

Alamzeb Khan, an ANP lawmaker from PF-1 (Peshawar), was killed in a car bombing while inspecting development work in his constituency on February 11 this year.

While the security forces seemed to be gaining ground in Swat and life was gradually returning to normalcy, the killing of Shamsher Ali has certainly triggered fears. It is bound to have a demoralising effect across the Swat district in particular and in the province in general.

Senator Afrasiyab Khattak, provincial president of the party, told The News that the ANP was considered an indoctrinated political force against militancy and such cowardly acts by militants could not deter the party from its struggle against extremism and insurgency.

Afrasiyab said he had talked to the father of late Shamsher Ali. “He was proud of his son for laying down his life for the nation. Shamsher Ali’s father said his family would keep on fighting for the cause of peace.”

The ANP senator said that militants had been stamped out from Malakand Division. However, he said, they had sanctuaries in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and despite the party’s repeated demand those havens were not dismantled. “Peace in NWFP will remain a far cry as long as all the sanctuaries of militants in tribal areas are not targeted and they are not defeated,” he said.

Lauding the services of late Shamsher Ali, he said the lawmaker was a committed, honest and dedicated political activist. He said Shamsher Ali belonged to a family with strong nationalist background and contributed a lot to the cause of the party.
