I had to choose between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Bombay Velvet. Being an ardent Anurag Kashyap fan I went for the later. 10 minutes into the movie and I was regretting my decision. Nothing changed until the final credits started rolling and everyone in the cinema hall left their seats.
The biggest disappointment for me was the lack of humor, dark or otherwise. This has been such an integral part of every AK movie. Even “Ugly” had at-least half a dozen moments when the entire audience laughed out loud in unison. BV was surprisingly plain in this regard.
To their credit, actors did their part very well but a plain and cliche ridden story never let me root for any of them. Karan Johar was a revelation as an actor, but it was painful to watch a brilliant performer like K.K Menon being wasted in a useless role.
To our way back home, I was feeling very grateful to my friend for not making fun of me. He accompanied me after a lot of convincing and some bragging from my side about how great a director Anurag Kashyap is and how he always creates magical movies. Sorry to say AK, but you let me down this time. ![]()
