Bolt fails in 300m record attempt

**Double Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt fell short of breaking Michael Johnson’s world record in the 300m at the IAAF World Challenge in Ostrava.**The Jamaican, 23, clocked 30.97seconds in his first competitive attempt at the distance, 0.12secs over Johnson’s time.

However, Johnson set his mark 10 years ago at altitude in Pretoria, where thinner air provides less resistance.

Compatriot Asafa Powell won the men’s 100m race in 9.83secs, the fastest time over the distance this year.

Tyrone Edgar finished fifth in a time of 10.37secs, with team-mate Craig Pickering sixth in 10.43secs.

Athens 4x100m relay-winning Olympic gold medallist Mark Lewis-Francis was disqualified for a false start.

Britain’s **Goldie Sayers **finished fourth in the women’s javelin. This article is from the BBC News website. © British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
