Bollywood or burst!

I think we are in a continuous struggle for years now but still havent been progressed a bit as far as our own identity is concerned. We are still confused which way to go and which one truly depicts our culture…Hollywood, Bollywood or Lollywood or none.

I dont watch Bollywood movies at all, one reason being their hideous intention to overshadow our (pakistani) culture. Maybe the film makers are not that clear in working out this plan, but it becomes quite obvious the way politicians take it. The other important reason why I dont feel like watching Indian movies is that I believe they are working hard to prove our basic fundamental belief of “two nation theory” wrong…the basis of the whole Pakistan movement. The film makers create a story line such a way so as to portray how it is acceptable for both Hindus and Muslims to live together…where as in actual we find many examples which are contradictory to it (the most recent one being the Gujrat incident). These intentions may not be harmful to to us, but to our young ones who watch these movies alongside us may think otherwise. I am not saying that we should simply ask our kids to start hating Indians, but what I am saying is that our actions should be consistent with our beliefs.

In my opinion we are very much confused about our directions, or otherwise atleast our own film industry (lollywood) would have been able to portray whats the true culture of pakistan.

Just to give you an idea why i am writing this message…last weekend on National Day Parade at NY, people were dancing on different beats…and among one of these was an Indian punjabi song…and that really made me think if we were actually celebrating our independence day or our cultural suppression day!

.

sorry bout that, i posted some mixed up off topic thoughts.

very true, i feel the same way.

i think most pakistanis are confused, and afraid to be pakistanis.

if you're not indianish, you're just not in the in-crowd.

its pretty pathetic. That's why its imperative for our media to compete with India's. So we dont have Salman Khan and Aish wannabe's.

What i then don't understand is why the Pakistani film industry has to copy the Bollywood industry. Currently many Inidan films are politically motivated. Last week in the UK they showed Fiza which i have to say was nonsense and was politically motivated to try and criticise the Muslims who fight in Kahsmir for having no actual direction and the fact the Hritik let his sister get married to a Hindu...nonsense.
Watch any Sunny Deol film and it has to be anti Pakistan. Yet the Pakistan industry just copies the romance movies. I would like to have an industry which can help educate my children rather than an industry which does further takes Muslims away from Islam. A socially aware Pakistan industry would be a good idea. I saw Bawandar a couple of weeks ago and that was about a caste rape and was very interesting and with India producing anti Pakistan films i would like to see Pakistani movies giving a Kashmiri perpsective that is not simply Pakistanis are evil people.
But Lollywood just copies the typical Indian movies and provides nothing new.
I will be honest that i have not seen Lollywood movies but am going on what i have been told about them and that is that they are hardly different than the typical Indian movie.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

This is part of the reason why i don't watch bollywood reasons the other being - i just find these movies plain boring.

A bit off the topic probably :)

For someone who hasn't even watched literally one Bollywood movie all his life, the five watched on a trot last year were good entertainment, albiet somewhat not so sensible and a bit too far-fetched but hey thats what entertainment is about.

Oh and I am not fond of culture anyways :) . But see its their media and they'd do what they deem is correct. It depends on the individual what they decide to do after watching any flick.

i agree that they can make whatever they want to produce...but the point is how would you expect a young one to decide whats right and whats not after watching an alien-culture movie? dont you think he would get more confused?

Fatma: i did get to read your messages earlier, and i dont think they were off topic...but i wouldnt give my comments since you already have edited your reply.

Sorry to say. But it's true. We don't really have a culture of our own.

i removed the replies cuz in my own mind i wasnt sure what my conclusion/opinion about this issue was and did not want to just ramble :~) but i can definitely recollect some of those thoughts and re-post them here if you would like me to do that :~)

Maybe Pakistan should start making better movies. Supply and demand.

I have a fantastic idea for a movie. If there are any bollywood producers on GS, then please let me know. I think it would be a blockbuster.

The story begins with 3 brothers getting separated when they were aged 4, 6 and 8 respectively, after their father leaves them unattended while he goes to buy some dahi baday. A policeman, hijra family and a heavily moustached ghunda then raise the boys. However, after many costume changes and well-written songs sung in the rain, mountains and the streets of London, the boys are re-united by a freak meeting in a crowd attending a cricket match. Despite being separated for 20 years they all recognise and embrace each other as long separated siblings would. The style with which they were eating their dahi baday with extra imli and chaat massala leaves no one with any doubt that they indeed are brothers.

maybe we should...but whatever glimpse i have about indian movies, it doesnt stand them better than pakistani movies in any ways!

Faatma: ummm...i dont remember exactly what you wrote...it was something about you being not affected by the movies or something :p

:hoonh: in that case who’s gonna bother to re-post :stuck_out_tongue:

itna time kis ke paas hae  i’m quite a busy person u know  :stuck_out_tongue:

I've heard Pakistani dramas are more original than their movies are...so maybe they should take a leaf out of the drams book and do something similar. Personally i'd like to see a film on Pakistan post September 11th. A Pakistani film on Kashmir. A film on caste. And a film about corrupt politicans. Instead we still get the cliqued(don't know how to spell it) boy meets girl, parents don't like it and want to marry them off, love ends up conquering all and everyone lives happily ever after. Pakistan can do a lot better as there are many social issues that can be tackled.
