Did you know that this year, practically ALL the movies churned out by Bollywood have bombed at the box office. The film making machinery is in a quandary, with the star egos as well as the prices crashing down. Major releases, such as the glitzy production ‘Khushi’ and ‘Ek aur Ek Gyarah’ have met with cold response from the audience, proving that even top stars failed to catch the fancy of the audience.
Overseas, the scene is as dire - the much hyped flick ‘The Hero’ was touted to create a storm in the theatres across USA. But the film fell flat on it’s face, the audience having had enough of the cheesy propaganda that may sell in Bollywood but has no takers in the international arena.
Its now left to us Pakistanis to suck up to every Bollywood film that comes around :).
I used to watch Indian films alot. But a year and a half ago I just stopped watching indian movies and since then I haven’t watched a single one. The reasons were many, one of them probably my best friend from Karachi, Sharyar. But still besides his convinces there were many other reasons.
seems like some kind of a rebellion took place in the fall of 2001 among Pakistanis against the indian media. This isn’t the first time I heard someone say that. Lots of Pakistanis I know who said they have stopped watching Indian movies since “this” time period. Some complain propaganda, some about indian forces on the Pakistani borders since the fall of 2001 to 2002 and some of course, Kashmir. Whether these openions are legit or not but it sure isn’t a good news for bollywood market in the west.

The indies have started churning out full trash since that period. And why do we have to be so faithful to whatever crap bollywood throws our way? The way Pakistan and Pakistanis have been represented in Indian films, I guess no self respecting individual would take the pains to watch that sort of crap.
Indian movies have gone big budget but I still find most of them unwatchable because they stories are still the same old junk. I'm not saying that out of patriotism, because Pak films are worse. Apart from the punjabi comedies which although crude, can be very funny.
The Indian film I saw was when I was staying in a cheap hotel run by some sikh guy who had zee tv showing in all the bedrooms. It had Shah Rukh and Madhuri and although it had it's moments, it was mostly mind-numbingly boring. 3 hrs worth at that. That Madhuri's acting was pretty good though. If they could come up with some decent scripts and cut out all the frivolous crap they might get somewhere.
