Bolivia jailer fired over favours

**The governor of Bolivia’s Chonchocoro prison has been sacked after a number of violent incidents in his jail.**Investigators searched the jail after several prisoners were injured in a turf war between inmates that involved a grenade attack and a shooting.

Officials also discovered one of the country’s former military rulers was being housed in a luxury cell at the supposedly high-security prison.

The well-equipped cell of ex-Gen Luis Garcia Meza included a gym and a sauna.

Luis Garcia Meza, 81, had also installed a table tennis table, dining room and even a barbecue grill in his quarters at the prison.

He is serving a 30-year term for abuses dating back to his period in power in the early 1980s.

Bolivia’s Interior Minister Sacha Llorenti said prison governor Col Gilmar Oblitas and other police officers would face penalties.
