re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

Funnily enough it is these 'documentary films' that have an impact, show at prestigious festivals and win awards. Pakistan needs to make such an impact.

Re: Bol: The review (not very encouraging)

Didn't finish reading. It's badly written and sounds more like a comparison to KKL than an actual review of the movie.

Re: Bol: The review (not very encouraging)

Does anyone in Pak know how to review a movie. I had to stop reading because it’s a recap of the entire movie! WTH!

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

from my understanding of the way she said it sounded like she said she has already worked with him on 3 projects. Now it's time for both her and Shoaib Mansoor to work with other newcomers.

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

I am in the same boat as you!! they show half naked ladies dancing to songs from Bollywood movies in their "updates" without any sort of warning that kids MIGHT be watching the same channel as their parents! But if one "channel" releases a movie the other channel act like nothing happend!!!! Why oh Why must we constantly put down our own home grown products! It IRKS me to no end!

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

Stop getting carried away.

Lighthearted, inspiring and feel good movies are my definition of cinema that attracts the mass audience and actually revives your cinema in true sense. It is not my definition of Bollywood. However I so wish lighthearted, inspiring and feel good movies was a definition of bollywood, because the amount of resources they have, its a real shame they don't produce healthy and meaningful entertainment.

And I don't find Bol boring, I find Bol a weak and messy (if you can call it one).

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

I hope respectable media journalist don't find themselves intimidated by blind Shoaib Mansoor's fans and his hype to actually point out any flaws in the movie.

Conservative criticism always leads to correction and ultimate betterment. It'll do such a huge favour setting up standards for the upcoming filmmakers.

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

The movie is going houseful today (on 2 screens, 6/8 shows). Will be watching it tomorrow hopefully. Very encouraging to see crowds thronging to a Pakistani film, and only watching the rest since the movie is sold out. The market is there, they need investors with the right mindset, not doodhwalahs.

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

any initial reviews of the movie of people in pak who went to see it today?

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

Very fair comment. I'm not gung-ho abt activist film-making for social change but honestly the level of ignorance in the society that's been left unaddressed for decades is massive. Someone has to take care of that. A good balance of both the "genres" would be good. Will def be checking out the Reema film, whatever the buzz around it is.

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

yes please, it'll be a welcome change to have people talk about the movie who have actually seen it, good or bad, rather than self proclaimed critics and experts here who havent even watched it yet

Re: Bol: The review (not very encouraging)

review bad or good. i will still watch it.

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

Atrium Cinema is all booked. We need more theatres in Pakistan especially the bigger cities.

Re: Bol: The review (not very encouraging)

the review is not even close to the movie, i'll suggest to watch the movie when it is released internationally, or a leaked copy might come up too who knows. Though there are some flaws in the movie, but the expressions, emotions, and actings are superb. Best act by Manzar Saibai, Shafqat Cheema, Iman Ali. Atif Aslam & Mahira weren't that bad as first timers.

Re: Bol: The review (not very encouraging)

This review was published by the express tribune who was begging Shoaib Mansoor for the films publicity but since SHOMAN gave it to Jang..well Express wasnt too thrilled with hiss decision. So first they completely bashed Bols music and now they are bashing the movie with this pathetic excuse for a review. Its all bias against GEO so completely disregard it. Also my prediction is that no mainstream news media will give favorable reviews to the film just because GEO has previously screwed over every other channel in Pakistan, and sadly our contry's media doesnt run on honest journalism but complete bias. Its sad.Regardless from the people who have ACTUALLY watched the movie(not the idiot liars online who are claiming to have watched it) they say it was completely worth it and the message is strong and beautiful.

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

Just saw the film. Couple of quick points:

  • well written, solid performances generally (not an Atif fan, but he does well)
  • the movie is VERY immersive, the DOP has done a solid job. You're sucked into the world shown in the film.
  • audience was surprisingly receptive to the subtle and at times not so subtle feminist/anti-mullah commentary of the film
  • It will most certainly hold your attention for its entire duration of 3 or so hours.

however...if you thought Khuda Ke Liye was depressing, this one will make you suicidal. Every imaginable calamity
happens on screen. Dull song and dances sequences, mostly forced. The whole track of Mahira becoming a pop-star
gets no screen space. MOst importantly there are some Very disturbing themes throughout the ENTIRE length of the movie, DO NOT
watch this with your family unless you want to feel totally awkward. The movie makes its point but
the travails depicted get so monotonous that you want to just leave your seat and go back to the real
world which ironically seems like an escape from the movie. The climax was forced.

I'm not happy after watching this one, but perhaps that is exactly what Shoaib Mansoor set out to do. A better balance of
entertainment and preachy cinema is what he needs to work on.

re: BOL.. Movie By Shoaib Mansoor

Additionally -- there WAS brief applause at the end, however couple of people (women, I guess) walked out when the proceedings got a bit too much prior to the tawaif sequence. Saturday shows were roughly 85% -90%, which isn't bad. The movie will probably get the Sunday bump tomorrow.

Re: Bol: The review (not very encouraging)

its hard to believe SM could make a bad film. I would watch it anyways sometimes reviews tend to be biased.
