a bokeh shot is a shot with blurry/fuzzy background so that your foreground/your subject is emphasized…standing infront of christmas lights and taking an out of focus shot so that you could get light circles in the picture is not what bokeh is about…its defocusing of the background not focusing on it…:~) and ofcourse you have to have a foreground/a subject in the picture…
most point and shoot cameras have very small sensors hence very good DOF which results in a very sharp n crisp background…it is very very hard if not impossible to get a good bokeh shot with a regular point and shoot camera. Spend some good hard earned halal money on a good camera and you girls will be able to take beautiful bokeh shots like Seema’s in no time:~)

You are welcome, and yes you got the main range pretty much covered, and yea it is pretty normal to take as many pictures as possible of a same subject, and then select the best one (if one has time that is) , har waqt to nahi banda khara ho kar aik hi jaga utaar sakta. But yea pretty nice pics Seema.

Nyx > I am on Canon 5D Mark II and 40D, but it is not the camerabody only that counts, but also the lens, my prime lens is 24-70 2.8L together with my full frame 5D, but for taking good bokeh shots I prefer 1.4 / 1.2 over 2.8 ofcourse.

zobia, In a bokeh shot sumthing has to be clear/in focus also, like in ur shot abv there is nuthing which is quite clear, every thing is blurred so it’s teknikally not bokeh as far s i know but i might b wrong 
, if u hv a look @ aisha’s shot the ppl in front r quite clear but the lights behind r blurred which makes it a bokeh
