ISLAMABAD (July 04 2005): Pakistan has invited Boeing Company and Airbus to set up their factories here and both aviation giants, one from US and the other from Europe, have shown keen interest to invest up to $20 billion in 7 years, sources told Business Recorder here on Sunday.

They said that 60,000 kanals land is being acquired near the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra, in District Attock, midway between Islamabad and Peshawar, which has the potential to become the Seattle of Pakistan and provide jobs to 35,000 engineers, technicians and other skilled workers.

Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), an organ of Pakistan Ministry of Defence, is playing a pivotal role in the aeronautical industry and avionics with its four components, the Mirage Rebuild Factory, Aircraft Manufacturing Factory, F-6 Rebuild Factory, and Kamra Avionics and Radar Factory.

Sources said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, who has been elected MNA from this area, is taking personal interest in the project to bring space technology, aerospace engineering, communication systems and sciences into Pakistan.

Boeing Company manufactures commercial airplanes, military aircraft and missile systems, airborne warning and control system (AWACS) and air traffic management. It has several factories in several countries, which produce major assemblies and parts for Boeing airplanes, and joint ventures for composite manufacturing airplane, modification and repair and spares.

The European aviation giant Airbus, a consortium of several countries, has a product line comprising 12 aircraft models–from the 100-seat single-aisle ‘A 318’ jetliner to 555-seat ‘A-380’.

Industry analysts say that 21st century belongs in Asia, as there would be massive economic activity in this continent. Therefore, more and more US and European companies want to relocate their factories in Asian countries.

Pakistan, geographically and strategically ideally located, is the most attractive country for investors and industrialists in the changing economic, political, social and strategic scenario of Asia, as it is likely to be the hub of industrial and commercial activity in the near future.

Re: Boeing and Airbus may set up factories in Pakistan

Fantastic news! :k: I hope it pans out. This will be a wonderful opportunity for Pak engineers and technicians. I am assuming that, initially atleast, Boeing and Airbus will likely bring their parts manufacturing to Pakistan. Ofcourse the best case scenario is if Boeing and Airbus actually build plants to make complete aircrafts in Pakistan. Either way, sounds like a fabulous opportunity for Pakistan.

i dont wanna get my hopes up. Big plans are cooked up every other day but nothing ever materializes.

Re: Boeing and Airbus may set up factories in Pakistan

Another news report found through google news denies that they are setting up factories. Instead, Boeing and Airbus are trying to establish deals with Pakistani aeronautics companies to manufacture parts.

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Industries, Production & Special Initiatives Jahangir Khan Tareen has said both the Boeing Company and Airbus are negotiating with Pakistani vendors to place orders for the manufacturing of parts of their respective planes.

“I have no information whether they are coming to Pakistan to set up their factories, but I have knowledge that they are negotiating with many Pakistani vendors in engineering sector to get manufacture parts of their planes from Pakistan,” he said and added that he had come to know about his development during his visit to “Hanover Exhibition”.

The federal minister was talking to newsmen after unveiling the plaque of Metecno Pakistan, a pioneer of steel construction in Pakistan. Tariq Ayub, managing director and chief executive officer of Metecno, and other company representatives also spoke on the occasion. It may be noted that a section of press has suggested that Pakistan has invited Boeing Company and Airbus to install their manufacturing units here and both the aviation giants have shown keen interest in investing up to $20 billion in 7 years in Pakistan.

“I have no such information,” said the federal minister for industries when asked about the press report but added that both the companies were planning to engage vendors in the engineering sector.

I have read somewhere that as part of the package deal to buy 777ER from Boeing, Pakistan had asked them to make some of the spare parts in Pakistan and they are helping setting up a spare parts plant near Kamra.
