if nothing else, getting a tattoo on your body requires taking a lot of pain. As per our religion islam, we are not allowed to self-inflict pain on our bodies with out a legitimate reason. As a matter of fact, we are not supposed to inflict pain on others bodies either let alone your own body. In addition, on the day of judjment, each and every organ of your body would testify of all sorts of misuse.
Whereas putting mehndi on your body is a painless process with temporary results.I guess the difference is obvious.
furqani, i think there is a verse about tattoos in the Quran.. i read about it a few weeks ago when another guppy posted something about tattoos

And how would you prove that every thing Quran says actually makes sense and is good for human beings. leave the Blind Faith on the side for a moment.

You did say that quran says something about tottoos, didn't you.
Body piercing, tattooing, branding, etc. all fall in the category of unnecessary interference, alteration and mutilation of Allah’s creation. Therefore, no Muslim, who is conscious of his religion, should ever contemplate such activities.
As for painless tattoos that are not permanent, like the stick on type, there ok as long as there not of people, animals, or of outside religions.
But they rather u stay away from tattoos altogether.
Night Fairy,
Are you learned enough to issue fatwas yourself or are you reproducing someone else's fatwa? Please clarify.
Jazak Allah.

YOU DON'T THINK THE QURAN IS RIGHT? DID YOU KNOW THAT "LA ILAHA ILLALLAH MUHAMMED RASOOL ALLAH" IS WRITTEN IN OUR LUNGS? DID YOU KNOW IN THE QURAN SURAT AR-RAHMAN IT MENTIONED THE "RED ROSE NEBULA" LIKE OVER 1400 YEARS AGO AND WE SEEN IT IN 1999/2000. NASA CALLS IT THE "CATS EYE NEBULA" THE QURAN CALLED IT THE "OILY RED ROSE NEBULA".
SURAT AR-RAHMAN
WHEN THE SKY IS TORN APART, SO IT WAS (LIKE) A RED ROSE, LIKE OINTMENT.
THEN WHICH OF THE FAVOURS OF YOUR LORD WILL YOU DENY?
DON'T HATE ON ISLAM. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T PRACTICE IT. SIMPLE AS THAT.
I believe that there is some reference to the women being permitted to beautify themselves with ornaments, etc., while modesty is encouraged for men.

I READ IT SOMEWHERE. WHY?
Well, common courtesy requires that you give reference for the source if you are using someone else's opinion. Also it helps to establish the credibility of the ruling.
I dont think the analogy of social/permanant drinking runs parallel with the issue of henna/tattoo.
Henna is temporary, it wears off. Its applied without pain and it comes off without pain. There is nothing wrong with that and no one is harmed. Tattoos are painful when getting one and even more painful when removing. As noted above inflicting pain upon yourself without reason is haraam.
Drinking leaves you in a state of intoxication, which then opens the door to further undesirable acts, regardless of you being an alcoholic or just a social drinker.
So no, its not like saying "i'm a social drinker but i i am not an alcoholic". Therefore your argument is flawed to start with. Moderator please delete this thread :p

I ONLY SAVED THAT LITTLE PIECE OF A THREAD OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM POSTING HIS NAME OR THE WEBSITE IN MY ORIGINAL POST.
Ok ok. Don't use CAPSLOCK while posting. Its considered similar to shouting... and is deemed rude in net culture.
Thanks.
