i had a very similar experience. Like i was at a brunch for a pakistani exotic dancer and some random aunty just kept talking about her daughter about how she was some big shot call center operator and once helped Bill Gates troubleshoot a Windows problem. Incidentally that kid happened to be at the same party, but she didn't talk to me since I look like a creepy & weird uncle. But I bet her mother was just fabricatin.
I mean there is one thing to be proud of your kids, family and another is to straight up fabricatin' the reality. My graduating class at University of Phoenix, had a total of 1245454 Pakistanis, so it's kind of a small world.
Late that night, I ended up at a Albianin frat party where I knew a few people and the new folks that I met had questions about where I had traveled, how many heads of state I had met and how much caviar I throw away every day. There was boasting, booze, cuddling with drunk out girls but at least no BS of fabricatin.
There are definitely down to earth Pakis around (just me), while much of the community is mired in the tackiness of fabricatin'.

Anyway, down to the issue, brown ppl in general have some serious issues with boasting, I think it just proves how insecure ppl are deep down inside. I was always taught growing up that showing off and making yourself appear better than others was really bad. Infact, I've always been a bit weary of nazar, so I never bring up any of my achievements with others. However, I've come across ppl who feel no shame boasting about the dumbest things. For example, my mil will always mention how pretty her daughter is and how she has such nice features and she gets so many rishtay. I find it incredibly weird and awkward to tell someone how beautiful your own daughter is! It;s like come on woman, your daughter is a horse!

I am witness to lots of boasting. Like this guy was working for a contractor for NASA , but to impress the congregation he would say that he works for NASA.
This other guy was an IT manager at a company but he would tell everybody that he was their CIO.
This kid I know works for a contractor of JPL but his parents would tell everyone that he works for JPL and is working on Mars Landing project.
Desi and their wishful thinking.
And then there is anothe kind of boasting.
“Man you talk about your cholestrol being 180, it is nothing mine is 250 and I do not care what doctor says, they know nothing.”
another would be saying.
“What blood sugar level ? You have just 180 and you are worried about it mine stays at 300 and I eat everything. If I have to die why should I not die happy with the thought that I enjoyed life to the fullest and ate what I wanted to”
