Re: Board Games

I thought I’ll grow up and play chess, the boys ran away! :hehe: I like Othello and checkers.

Re: Board Games

Some favourites in our family include:

Carrom (We actually have scheduled tournaments on special occasions like Eid, etc.)
Haven’t played Snakes and Ladders or Ludo for eons but definitely enjoy it when we do. Cousins are notorious for cheating big time in Ludo :cb:
Monopoly is a long-time favourite. Have multiple versions.

In the recent past we were introduced by mad scientist to “Arabian Nights” and totally fell in love with it. I don’t know if it can be called a “role play” kind of game but it’s totally fun and we’ve been known to play it into the wee hours of the morning…

mad scientist also introduced us to The Resistance, which we have equally enjoyed.

Last year we started watching Cumberbatch as Sherlock with our daughter and she really got into the whole solving mysterious crimes theme. On a visit to our local game/comic shop she found a new game called “Scotland Yard”. Haven’t had time to open it up and play yet but hopefully in the next few weeks we will and I’ll give you a review.

Re: Board Games

What is solah saar about?

Re: Board Games

Solah saar or solah goti is a chess like board game. It is played between two players. Board looks like one square attached with two traingles on the sides along which players sit. Several bisecting lines are drawn and saar or gotis (kankad not kanche) are placed on nodes except on the line opposite to players which devides the square into two halves. So each player has sixteen saar. Each saar can move on lines and can kill rival's saar if the next node in the line is empty and occupies the empty one. The saar killed is removed from board. Saar can move in all direction but along the line and moves one step at a time. One by one players get the chance to move her saar. The player who kills all saars of rival is declared winner. In Bundelkhand due to plenty of rocks we have thick stone tiles called chhatti on floor of varandah and chabootrah. Generally this board is permanently carved on chhatti to avoid drawing with brick piece.

Re: Board Games

Re: Board Games

Let me see about my some of my collection of board games… more to follow later.

Horus Heresy

*Taking the side of traitor or loyalist, two players control either fearless Space Marine legions or deviant Chaos Space Marines, mighty Titans, Imperial Armies both loyal and traitorous, and a fearsome array of other units, including the Emperor and Horus themselves.

An innovative order and initiative system forces each side to carefully consider the commands they issue to their troops. A dramatic, card-driven combat system incorporates escalating damage, gives players the opportunity to allocate resources between attack and defense, and brings to bear the unique special powers of each unit type, from fortification-destroying Titans to the perverse daemons of Chaos.*

Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game provides a unique gaming experience. Unlike most games where players win individually, Battlestar Galactica is a cooperative game, with the added complication that one or more of the players is a secret Cylon traitor—your entire side will win or lose, and you might not even be certain who is on your side until the game ends!
