Blush me baby

Before coming across GS I don’t think I ever gave beauty products much importance so forget about something like blush…but now i’m starting to experiment with it a bit.

Tiny question:

Is it really unheard of to apply blush on the lower part of the cheeks instead of that the highest part of the cheekbones?
because naturally my face gets blushy on the lower part of the cheeks rather than the cheekbone portion.

Re: Blush me baby

I don’t think it’s blush that she’s applying. It looks more like contouring powder/bronzer. I think the picture is showing how to contour, rather than apply blush. Notice the much lighter shade used to highlight certain areas.

I came across this, on Pinterest, about applying blush:

Re: Blush me baby

Some ladies concentrate it just on the apples of their cheeks and it looks too much like a doll's makeup.
So when you apply blush take it all the way up to just underneath your earlobe.

I highly recommend you girls try NARS - Taj Mahal.

It's a gorgeous orangey shade that gives the perfect glow on South Asian skin.

Re: Blush me baby

i rarely pay attention to those guides or what they tell you ni magazines.

I always suck my cheeks in and apply at the "hollow"....I like how it looks so....idk?

Re: Blush me baby

I just picked a picture at random on the web that had some blush mentioned but all pictures like that have something to do with contouring and highlighting unfortunately. In the picture I posted, the part in pencil is what I drew in.

I have a squarish face not even close to being oval so I want to concentrate on the center of the face and stay away from the cheekbones....is my thought. What is the reason we use blush? What are we trying to accomplish with it?

Re: Blush me baby

Contour powder (or cream) goes on the hollows of your cheeks, your highlighter goes on the top part of your cheek bones, the blush is usually applied lightly to the apples of your cheeks and swept upwards into the hairline.

Re: Blush me baby

why do we use blush? I am horrible at contouring and highlighting so now i’m starting off using only blush and understanding the point of it.

Thanks! I’ll defo look up how either of these two look on my skintone. I just want a natural looking blush that doesn’t look too harsh.

perfect. This is what I was looking for because it does differ based on face shape where to place the blush because i’m a cross between heart shaped face and squarish.

Re: Blush me baby

silly Q but is contouring cream just foundation that’s darker? :konfused:

Re: Blush me baby

That’s definately a trick some makeup artists use - a darker foundation and then blend it in.
But you can also get bronzers that are powdery which do the same thing. I actually want to try the darker foundation trick once my bronzer is all done.

Re: Blush me baby

It’s a gorgeous colour! And it looks amazing on asian skin tones. Just use it VERY lightly. And it gives you the most amazing glow. I think for south asian ladies I would say it’s a must have.

Re: Blush me baby

That's actually what I do. Since I've had issues finding a bronzer that was not too dark, too orange, muddy, or super shimmery, I decided to just use MAC Studio Fix Powder in a couple of shades darker than my normal shade. I'm NC15 and use NC30 as bronzer and for contouring purposes. I've tried quite a few bronzers and that seems to look the most natural.

Re: Blush me baby

In addition to NARS Taj Mahal mentioned by @amber19, MAC Modern Mandarin is also quite nice. It’s more of a bright coral and flatters most skin tones. It’s very buildable and can be built up to a deep shade of coral:

Re: Blush me baby

Anyone ever used a blush cream on oily/combination skin? would it stay put?

Re: Blush me baby

I used cream blush for a long time, and as long as I didn't excessively touch my face, and only blotted instead of rubbing the oil off my face, the blush would still be on my face at the end of the day (more so than powder blush I feel, which is so contradictory to what is commonly thought).

Re: Blush me baby

Contouring is to create 'cheekbones' while a blush is used to add a 'flushed' and pinched color to the cheeks. I really like cream blushes, they give a very pretty dewy look. (I prefer using them in winters though)

Re: Blush me baby

Has anyone tried Zukreat's contour sticks?
