Bluetooth enabled Cell Phone

Which of the US carriers offer any phone with bluetooth?

what will the phone bluetooth with :)... I mean what features will it have that may make is useful item to have. I have been looking for a bluetooth optical mouse that does not require an extra dongle to add to my laptop. If anyone knows of such a creation (THe ms mouse requires a dongle) let me know. I would buy a notebook bluetooth card to interface with the computer but no dongles.. I have too many of those to carry around already :).

The companies that control most of the patents for what may become the dominant mobile phone standard have agreed on what they say is a relatively modest licensing fee. But one big patent owner is so far holding out.

NTT DoCoMo has the world's only working W-CDMA network, but most other carriers are expected to finish upgrading by 2005. US carriers planning to move to the standard, which is also known as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System), include AT&T Wireless.

HMCQ, so far you can only see the real implementation of this technology in Japan I mentioned carrier name above but just for your information W-CDMA doubles the calling capacity of any mobile phone network equiped with bluetooth and creates a wireless Web with download speeds of up to 364kbps. It's expected to dominate the world's mobile stage because any carrier, regardless of what kind of network it operates, can upgrade to the standard without building a new network. That's a benefit no other standard, such as GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), can offer.

Wadan Sain, are you planning to live in Japan till 2005 :D

A bluetooth equipped phone is Ericsson R520

Since its GSM, so T-Mobile, Cingular or AT&T might be able to activate it for you.

Check with Munni. She knows more about these things.

Faisal, there are tons of them in the market right now from Motorola, Samsung, Audiovox, Kyocera, and Nokia. but it comes to cellular company and right now all the big names (service providers) are in a process of upgrading their networks. You may be able to use it as a cell phone but not its (bluetooth) functionalities. May be in Europe in few days but I doubt. States and Canada are far behind in this game.

Salman .. meri jaan kay totay .. bluetooth has nothing to do with the capabilities of the carrier .. its a local technology that will enable the end user to interact with his surroundings ... all i want is to use that bluetooth ear plug :) ... specifically, faisal answered my question ... :) ... daamn!! man! u trashed all US carriers .. itnee dushmini?

^Azkar Sahib your question was not very clear either. Even a novice person like me would have mistaken as if you were looking for Cellular Service Provider who uses bluetooth as carrier or a cell phone with bt.

I guess Salman’s point was far more than utilizing bluetooth cell phone as PAN (Personal Area Networks) which allows you to leave your phone in your pocket, while talking on your phone with a Bluetooth headset - with no wires. Or excahnge contact or scheduling information with other Bluetooth-enabled phones nearby, or sending such information to a nearby Bluetooth-enabled printer or giving your laptop computer or PDA wireless high-speed Internet access via your cell phone.

Anyway here’s what I found for you

DoCoMo, AT&T Wireless Announce WCDMA Plans

Dec 26, 2002, 2:49 PM Reuters

Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo said today it will begin offering W-CDMA 3G services with AT&T Wireless by December 2004 in San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas and San Diego. The two companies will set up a special committee to map out their 3G rollout plan. In addition, another DoCoMo official will become AT&T Wireless's director. The Japanese carrier already owns a 15 percent stake in AT&T Wireless. DoCoMo has struggled with its year-old 3G service in Japan, the world's first using the W-CDMA format, attracting a mere 150,000 users. Rival KDDI, which uses CDMA2000 technology, has amassed four million 3G subscribers during the same period.

I don't know about Canada.. but in US, majority of cellphones are directly sold by the cellphone carrier companies alongwith a monthly usage and payment plan. So if you want any kind of phone, in most cases you gotta go to the carrier and find out. Hence the question: "Which of the US carriers offer any phone with bluetooth?" :)

I feel lucky!!! cause dealers does the math for you and all you have to do is to select a phone for yourself. Damn! Finally Canadians have achieved better customer service over US :)

dont pull my leg now :) ... novice ppl need not reply ... the last I know is that BT is a local area conn. solution (short-range radio technology) .. carries cannot use it as the long range baseband ... in this light, the question was very simple and focused ...

but anyway ... thanks to you and all for doing the research and sharing ... I really appreciate it ..

ooops .. actually my fault .. I thought I was posting in the Tech forum ... I use text browser (lynx) usually .. :) Pilot .. my apoligiezzz man... novice ppl can reply in this forum ... :)

a bluetooth headset sounds wonderful! now only if it would sync with outlook...

I own a Ericsson T68i. Its equipped with bluetooth and infrared. I usually use bluetooth for my headphones or to change songs on winamp on my computer when playing chess in the drawing room. Its soo much fun I tell u :)

hmcq .. yes they do ... if your laptop has BT (like my ibm T30) you can synch .. example: I synch my iPAQ via BT ... no cradle .. (actually there is one on the other corner of my desk to do the rechargin ..

the slight problem is that stupid sprint (my carrier) does not have any BT phones and my stupid company wont pay if I switch to other networks ... who wants to pay outa pocket when the company pays for you .. ;) ...

well menu is slow, but if you are a "Nokia" guy then wait for the new installments from Nokia. There new phones will be equipped with BT.

I still dont understand ... BT technology is soo old, were you guys sleeping ??

I got my T68 2 years back and been using my phone for all sorts of things! The BT range is pretty good so I can select a song from my car before entering my house and create a different mood everytime. If I am travelling, I connect to the internet on my laptop through BT and you can keep your cell in your bag, or your pocket! I also use BT for my cell phone headset. So basically no dongles or anything. Just put it on and ur cell in ur pocket. U can accept calls from ur headset too.

Well, one thing is for sure. One day, ppl will hack us through BT just by walking in a mall (VERYY SOON) :D:D
