Derek Cianfrance’s ‘Blue Valentine’](Blue Valentine (2011) - Movie | Moviefone) is making major headlines today after the MPAA ruled to give the indie drama a surprising NC-17 rating.
According to Deadline, the rating reportedly had to do with a scene from the film in which its main characters, Dean and Cindy (Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams), head to a low-brow motel in attempt to save their failing marriage. The scene reportedly involves some sex and nudity, but no violence. Now, some are wondering why it wasn’t simply given an R-rating.
