Blowdrying Hair

Do you blow dry your hair? For some reason, I have always found it really amusing when my stylist at the salon does it after a haircut and I once attempted but it was sooo horrible. I couldn’t even blow dry a few strands properly, forget the entire hair. I hate straightening, wouldn’t do it unless it’s crucially important for me to have pin straight hair but after my last haircut when the girl blow dried my hair, it looked so styled! So for a wedding and all, if I want to style my hair a particular way by blow drying it, how should I do it? I don’t have anyone to hold the iron for me while I do the brush thing. Any ideas?

Re: Blowdrying Hair

you need a rounded bristled brush
evenly divide your hair into part and pin them up and blowdry each section with the brush so that you avoid tangling your hair …use your left hand to control the brush and your right to control the blowdrier
this works best and in the end if you have any waves here or there just lightly straigthen that out with the hair iron …this will give you a smooth bouncy look…works for me
self blowdrying takes a lot of time for me :pagli:

Re: Blowdrying Hair

my hair would be fried if i blowdried it the way they do. its good for once in a while. they use high setting and attach a nozzle to the dryer. like bisoux mentioned they pin up the hair and start from the bottom and the secret to getting the perfect blowout is holding the dryer almost touching the hair and holding the hair very taught with the round brush. this is hard to do yourself since you cant see the back of your head. they go over the same strands again and again till my head burns. and then end it with some sort of serum to de-frizz and polish.

Re: Blowdrying Hair

yea my last haircut was such a disaster cause the lady who owns the salon decided that some new girl would blowdry my hair and she blowdried it to death…smelled bad too…i was so mad grr …i would rather blowdry myself
i usually go to a different place where the hairdressers are more gentle with blowdrying and don’t keep blowdrying the same section 896798 times

Re: Blowdrying Hair

shay, its super easy, apply mousse to towel-dried hair. then you gotta just run the dryer all over until your hair is more than half dry- thats when you're supposed to actually attempt styling it.
so you take the big ole' brush, straight or round, doesn't really matter, and start pulling it down straight with one hand and with the other hand, mimic the movement with the dryer, nozzle pointed at your hair, of course :p
then bend over, look down, flip your hair over your head, and do the same thing to the underside. it'll be straight and voluminous! :) works like a charm everytime for me and you dont have to fuss with pinning your hair up and doing sections.

Re: Blowdrying Hair

That sounds so funny, lol

Re: Blowdrying Hair

i actually use a hair styler its a brush and a dryer duo and i love blow drying with it though my mum's againt it lol

Re: Blowdrying Hair

can someone recommend a good blow dryer??

Re: Blowdrying Hair

Actually, there are all these new dryers out now that have different attachments (like the round bristle brush) so that you don't need to coordinate the brush with the hair.

It is vented and pushes the air out of the round brush so it's super easy to just flip your head upside down and quickly blow dry!!

Re: Blowdrying Hair

^ wow i need that :hmmm:

It's diff to blow-dry long hair..or one with lots of layers urself. Blowdrying adds lots of volume to u're hair as u're lifting the hair from the root..

It's done by dividing u're hair into sections.. and using a medium barrel soft-bristle brush, begin at the roots and point the nozzle of u're dryer down and pull the brush downwards and inwards at the ends.

same problem, i have lots of layers and it takes ages so i only do it on occassions and then i use this method ... i even have to pin up the hair and do it bits by bits .. lots of work :(

I myself go and get it done, it's not easy doing u're own hair :)

lucky you! :-)

Re: Blowdrying Hair

Aw man gone are the blowdrying days when you have GHD's!

I dont really need any natural volume as I have a lot of hair, but when I didnt have GHD's and I didnt want to look like cousin IT, I would section and use a rounded brush. Always apply heat protecting spray before you blowdry though.

Its hard to do what they do in salons as you cant pull that hard on your hair yourself. I used to bribe my younger sister to do mine, she loved it.

Re: Blowdrying Hair

now i wish i had a sister too :teary2:

I wish I still lived with mine :frowning:

She used to straighten my hair for me too, and wash it, and this one time (at band camp) she even brushed my teeth for me. I was ill. Dying. God bless my sister, she is AMAZING!

Straightners..make u're hair flat from the roots.. I'd take blowdrying any day!

Depends on how much hair one has. My hair is quite 'big' so straightening it makes it look somewhat normal. If I didnt have as much hair then yeh I would blowdry it too, blowdrying pads the hair out a little.

btw...how long does it take u guys to blow dry ur hair? i have amost waist length hair - about 12 inches below my shoulders - and its reasonably thick - takes me 30 minutes to blow dry it......am trying to cut the time doiwn to 20 minutes but just cant !! any tips??? just wanted an idea of how long it takes u guys to blow dry on average?
