Bloodshed in Iran revolution

In the first step Iran revolution led by Khomeiny was against the pro Shah elements. After removing them it did not stop and took next step against the people who were least a little against the tactics of Khomeiny, then it went for cleansing the society.

The worst part is that the revolutionary guards, mostly armed students were the police, court and executioner at the same time that is three in one executioner of the sentence. Public hangings were very common.

Basically the main forces of Iran’s1979 Revolution were against the social rights of an individual, and even the Shah’s regime, which they opposed, honored social freedom (not political freedom), more than these forces. This is why the Islamists started wiping out the social rights, from the first days after the success of the 1979 revolution, with the slogan of “yA roosari, yA toosari” (meaning either wear a scarf or be hit on your head), when suppressing the demonstration of women in Tehran, a month after the February 1979 Revolution.

And the Islamists spoke of Islamic principle of “amre beh maroof va nahi az monker” (advocate virtues and prohibit the vices), an Islamic principle which became the rule of social conduct in Iran under the rule of Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI), and it was used to suppress the individual social rights of every citizen in Iran, by the revolutionary guards and other organs of morality police, the state organs with the mandate of upholding virtues and crushing the vices.

Khomeini filled key positions in the government with his closest clerical allies. He also conducted a purge of all “un-Islamic” elements from universities, newspapers, and other cultural institutions. In time, many Iranians—particularly less religious Iranians—found themselves living under a politically and culturally repressive regime.

At the same time the power struggle had reached its peak. To eliminate the opposition, government relied not only on legal procedures but also on “questionable” practices of pro-government entities such as Komiteh (local organizations), Sepah-e Pasdaran (the revolutionary guard), and pressure groups. The increasing violence exercised by these entities expedited the disillusionment process of the opposition. By early summer 1980 all political groups opposing the government had to go underground.
