Blood

We all know the child’s brought is vital in developing his character, but I met few people, strongly believing in genetical effect of parents on children.

I have heard stories about adopted orphans.e.g, after a theft, the family might suspect the adopted child who was son of a theif.

Does the blood and genes matters. Is the dead prostitute to be blamed, if her child grows up to become a woman of bad character ?

Re: Blood

To be politically correct, It does not matter. All depends on up-bringing

But scientifically and in reality, It has an effect to some extent..

Genes matter, people call it blood, we use it interchangeably.

Charachter is least affected by heritage, surrounding and upbringing plays the vital role. But ignorant people blame it on heritage to hide their own inefficiency. If a child does not grow up to be a good person 95% of the blame lies on surroundings and bad fostering

Re: Blood

the age-old question of herdity vs. environment! I think heredity plays at least some role in the type of character one is...but can be strongly affected by environment.

Re: Blood

nature vs. nurture debate. I think both play a role however both can be overcome.

Re: Blood

this reminds me of the hindu caste culture

Re: Blood

That’s one of the old superstitious beliefs. I agree with codey. The inadequate ability of a parent when does not suffices the proper upbringing of a child, of course the ignorant ones will blame the blood or the family gene.

Re: Blood

...and vice versa db....

you can do everything impeccably, raise a child the right way from the day they're born. and still the child can have problems - ranging from mental illness to learning disabilities to anger management issues etc etc. Thats why the endless debate over heredity vs environment....

Re: Blood

A prostitute woman doesnt have to have the 'prostitute' gene in her. Most prostitutes arnt prostitutes by choice, but rather by economic need. Many are born into this profession and raised as such by their kin, or sold into it.

You cant blame a dead prostitutes genes if her daughter grows up to be a woman of bad character. You can however blame that daughters circumstances, her upbringing and her surroundings, as well as the concious choices she may have made in her life that brought her to that position.

Re: Blood

^ correct
As mamaof3 said the genes you inherit might reflect if you will have a certain type of disease, phsyiological abnormalities etc.
A doctor's son is not going to become a doctor because it is not an inherited gene :)
