Blood pressure!!

My doctor says I have blood pressure :S. Anyone else dealing with this? I have been doing cardio, eating healthy so this is another hurdle sent by genetics. I don’t even watch Bollywood movies but I feel like quoting this dialogue to everyone as someone who hasn’t had a proper meal in months because I was avoiding salt, anda, rice, red meat on my doctor’s insistence.

Yes, I’m losing my mind.

Re: Blood pressure!!

What is your blood pressure? Are you taking any meds? Genetics does play a part for sure but I brought down my blood pressure from 140/85 to 110/70 by losing weight through dietary/lifestyle changes..no meds. How is your water intake?

Re: Blood pressure!!

130/100 was what my doctor kept measuring eveytime he saw me for unrelated causes. I have been taking two different kinds of pills because the first batch didn't work. I am losing weight steadily but my parents have blood pressure (my dad has had it since he was younger than me) and grandmother had a stroke so the doctor isn't taking chances. My dad has been taking blood pressure medicines for the past 30+ years so it isn't looking too good for me although my doctor is kind of optimistic. sigh

Re: Blood pressure!!

So with meds it's still 130/100?!

Re: Blood pressure!!

For the first batch it was. Then it came down to 120/90 with the second round of meds but I have a fierce headache right now which is concerning me. I know this means my blood pressure spiked today (and that too only 2 hours of taking pills). I don't know if an occasional spike is normal? I was actually going to go and check it right now.

Edit: my completely unreliable bp machine tells me I'm at 117/80. Lol. But sometime ago I felt like all the blood had rushed to my head and all I could hear was my own heartbeat. Now all I have left is a lingering headache. Is this what having high blood pressure feels like?

Re: Blood pressure!!

When mine was high I didn't get headaches, I didn't even know I had blood pressure issues lol until my yearly physical and the nurse told me. We started monitoring it and would fluctuate but was still classified as pre hypertension so that's when I got serious about diet and exercise.

Re: Blood pressure!!

Home BP machines are quite unreliable. I suggest that you go to your nearest pharmacy and use their machine. Also always try to measure it at same time of the day, like maybe 4pm everyday. Log it for 15 days in a row. That will give you a good picture of your overall BP

Re: Blood pressure!!

^ experts say taking BP constantly makes you nervous and hence higher BP.

it's best to use the old fashioned mercury BP machine. BP has to be measured AFTER you have been sitting down quietly for at least 5 minutes. i think taking your BP when you wake up in the morning is a good idea. a late afternoon reading [when you return from work] is quite helpful.

Re: Blood pressure!!

everyones blood pressure varies during the 24 hr day so not to worry too much!

Re: Blood pressure!!

most people with borderline high bp would go back to normal range if they can drop 10-15 lbs and engage in at least 30 mins of reasonably intense cardio most days of the week.

while there are genetic factors, it is quite likely your family has a history of high bp because family members often share the same bad lifestyle choices. #govegan](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=govegan) #getmoving](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=getmoving)

you really dont want to be on bp meds in your 20s. google kro - the web is full of stories of people who were in your situation and used it as a wake up call to a fitter life.

Re: Blood pressure!!

Oh, yes. BP machines are crazy bad. I have the manual one as well but when my head is pounding I start feeling less confident about whether I heard things right in the machine. The silly automatic one is very random.

I do an hour and a half of intense cardio four times a week so that's hopefully helping. Is that enough? I know I'm losing weight. I haven't even eating ghar ka khana since 2 months. Just eating random salads made by me. My cholestrol levels turned out to be pretty good but eh, there are more factors to take into consideration.

Re: Blood pressure!!

i went to the doctor yesterday and the doctor put me on medicine. anyone have any home remedy i can follow so i can get off the pill.

Re: Blood pressure!!

^ consume less salt.

Re: Blood pressure!!

Maybe try switching to sea salt or pink himalayan salt then the regular table (processed) salt? Talk to your doctor if that will help?

Re: Blood pressure!!

should i avoid drinking tea when my blood pressure is high.

Re: Blood pressure!!

I ve heard that putting a piece of small magnate in you front left sided pocket can be helpfull to bring the bp in normal range.
try it and then check your bp. you will see the benefit( as I heard)
so do try and share the result for others.
