Blood Ivory: Elephants in crisis :(

Even after the global ban on ivory trade in 1989, the numbers recorded are still crazy:

-Every year almost 25,000 elephants are killed by poachers!

-The countries that National Geographic visited to gather info on the ivory trade : Tanzania, Kenya, the Philippines, Thailand, Italy, Vatican City, England, China, Qatar, and Geneva, Switzerland.

-The country that stood out the most is Philippines, and ofcoz this is just transit for this ivory which then travels to China, but the Philippines is one of the largest consumers as well.

Shipments seized customs which were headed for Manila or in Manila itself :

  • 7.7 tons seized in Manila in 2005
  • 6.1 tons seized in Taiwan bound for the Philippines 2006
  • 5.4 tons seized in Manila in 2009

oh! and surprise surprise…all this in the name of religion and wealth

They are still awaiting a response from the Vatican about this…I dnt think it will ever come!

Because this is all in the name of religion, do they (Christians) honestly believe that God created the elephants so that they can slaughter them and make statues out of them and worship these statues…as for the Buddhists…I dnt know too much about their philosophy…but I do believe it says somewhere that it is a sin to harm any living thing.

As for the wealth part of it…they should just buy a stupid rolls royce or carve a statue of themselves out of gold if they want to show how wealthy they are instead contributing to these slaughters!

This map and the numbers are really shocking :

Really surprised to hear they use it to make statues for worshiping . I thought , they only use it to make creativity materials for museums and rich people. This is really sad, only male elephant has tusks if they kill them then no increase in their population.

Re: Blood Ivory: Elephants in crisis :(

^I was quite surprised with that as well...
