What do you prefer and why?
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
hmmm my two dirhams worth are… if its ur own purchased home and its spacious and has natural light and angles.. I’d personally go for curtains…however if your renting and its a temporary abode Im more likely to go for blinds- blackout ones prefably due to their practicality. and efficiency.. curtains are to be enjoyed …:k:
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
Curtains. Looks more neat and organized.
Though with blinds it depends which kind you are talking about. If its the office type of blinds, then they are a no no. Though vertical and Roman shades look very nice too, depending on where you're putting them up.
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
aren't blinds mor expensive and complicated to put up?
I'd liek curtains.
Slat blinds & then curtains as well. Considering thin material curtains here so there is some sort of "pardah" but still enough bright light comes in at daytime.
And when it gets dark & you turn the lights on, you can just roll the blinds down & no one gets to see anything inside.
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
I dont like blinds because they're so difficult to clean. The dust gets on all the slats and its a very long process to get them clean. The best way is to take them down and spray them in a bathtub with a hand-held shower. But thats a huge deal to accomplish so of course you dont do it as often and they end up being dusty a good part of the time.
Curtains work for me! And you can always get draperies that you can open when you want light and close to make the room dark. They're so much easier to keep clean too, just take them down and toss them in the washer and dryer.
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
i hate curtains. they make a room look messy and attract way too much dust which is an issue for allergic me. i only had blinds up at my place
BUT
unfortunately , my son is a very very very fussy sleeper and needs utter darkness so we have had to put curtains ontop of blinds (the roll down kind) to block off any daylight that may come thru. i hate it but anything to make him get his sleep
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
Curtains.
They are much more reflective of individual taste. B & Q have some really nice ones.
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
what blinds are people talking about? 1 inch aluminium ones in alabaster?
you cab get fantastic wood or faux wood blinds in many shades ranging from oak and maple to mahogany and wenge. and it would be a bad idea to wash them,
you also have fabric blinds, the cellular/honeycomb shades which can be in many colours, could also be 2 diff shades of colour and and you can adjust it for one colour or another depending on the mood. then there are fabric blinds which can be closed, open or tilt gives a sheer part for privacy.
rollers these days are available in exotic woods, woven woods and diff types of fabrics as well, roman shades too.
take a look at this site for ideas, they are pricy but can show you what is possible/available.
blonds tend to be better for people with allergies, dusting using a static charged cleaner keeps them much cleaner than curtains or roman shades, because curtains really dont get washed very often, and worse can easily absorb smell of cooking in enclosed spaces.
Personally I dont like vertical blinds, never liked them never will. for patio doors i like the track systems, they look cleaner and more streamlined.

get blind liners, they will do the trick, also, they have blinds which dont have the exposed holes where the string is going through, and where the slats interlock when tilted closed to prevent any light from going through from between slats.
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
I prefer curtains. Blinds have such a clinical feel about them! One of my aunts has blinds and the kids have wrecked them when opening and closing them.
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
^My kids have done the same....they've broken more than few wooden slats.
X2
those fabric blinds look really pretty, they're blinds but look more like curtains.
Re: Blinds or Curtains?
if kids are going to break something they can hang from curtains and break curtain rods too.
as far as clinical feel for blinds, I fail to see how 2 inch wenge or chestnut slat blinds look clinical. sadly too many ppl think of the vinyl or aluminium miniblinds which infact look rather officey.
but in my view layering is the way to go, to inside mount blinds and then curtains outside. blinds give a lot of flexlibility in privacy and light control which curtains cant, unless you have layers with sheers for light yet privacy during daytime.
Hareem- those cellular shades are real nice, I have to find pics of the fabric shades that have sheers in between the fabric 'slats' so u can tilt them and have more light but with privacy. They actually now do this with wood blinds as well, that when they are tilted open there is a sheer fabric between slats so u get light in but with privacy. they offer the most in terms of flexibility I think.
