At least 19 have been killed and 26 hurt in a series of blasts and attacks in Uzbekistan, local officials say.
Prosecutor General Rashid Kadyrov said suicide bombers killed three policemen and a child in an attack at a bazaar in the capital, Tashkent, on Monday.
There were also three fatal shootings of policeman in Tashkent, and a blast at the home of an alleged extremist in Bukhara, that killed 10 people.
“These were terrorist acts,” Mr Kadyrov said, blaming religious extremists.
“There is reason to believe they were prepared over a long period and co-ordinated from a centre, possibly abroad,” Mr Kadyrov added.
Foreign Minister Sadyk Safayev said the blasts were committed by “the hands of international terror” and bore the “the hallmark of the terrorist acts we have already witnessed abroad.”
Mark my words uzbekistan is going to be the next play ground for jehadis. full marks to the dictator who boils his opponents and to all those protectors of democracy who are protecting a dictator
For a government that's under fire for massive human rights violations in surpressing religious-based political opposition, these blasts do come at an extremely convenient time - it gives an excuse to continue or even expand their human rights violations.
Very very very convenient for the Uzbek government, in fact ... one might even say, too convenient.....
A government that boils its own citizens and otherwise tortures them (and those are the lucky ones who actually survive) for merely wanting a different government would have absolutely no qualms about murdering 19 of its own citizens and injuring 26 if it would take the heat off political repression.

PRECISELY but the sad part is that the terror unleashed by the state machinery with the support of the so called civilised world is the worst form of repression. if usa was right in invading iraq to promote democracy then uzbekistan is more fit to be invaded
Uzbek president Islam Karimov, Amir Timur of the 21st century, is a brutal dictator. He renamed many months and days after himself and his mother. No wonder he is an another key ally in the war against terrorism
The people of Uzbekistan are terrorized by a repressive government. So these extremeists decide to blw up 20 or thirty people, most of whom are those who are already being repressed.
I am again repulsed at the theroy that “root causes” gives someone the right to blow up innocent people. Attack the government, the economy, the infrastructure, military barracks, but not innocents. What’s more, other methods of protesting the abuses of the government are pushed aside when bombs go off…
"The multiple attacks and suicide bombers suggest that al-Qaida may be involved, if not simply mimicked.
Whoever was behind this week’s terror attacks, one result is clear. A fear of shootouts, sieges and suicide bombers dominates streets that were once characterised by an all-consuming fear of the state. I recall once asking that favourite source of the lazy foreign correspondent - a taxi driver - what he thought of the regime of President Karimov. He refused to answer, pointing at his dashboard, saying: “they hear everything”, as if the security services had secretly bugged his Lada.
A further crackdown against extremists is inevitable. The diplomat added: “The timing is very fortunate for the government who have just refused to let the opposition campaign in the elections.”
Then there is the small matter of the $100m in aid from Washington. The US has wise laws that forbid it to fund regimes that have appalling human rights records. Uzbekistan’s staggering abuses were, next month, expected to ensure the state department certified them a regime too horrible to fund. Many considered this judgment too little too late, considering that in 2002 the state department accused the Uzbek police of “routine torture” while simultaneously giving them an $80m aid package."
Muslim countries failed. Soon America will show them what human decency means, and if they don't listen, America will show them what cluster bombs mean.
US has stated Uzbekistan the very same uzbekistan which boils its citizens and arrests grandmothers is a top ally in so called war on terror.
Seems lot of bombs going off lately with political and timed agenda we don't know know who plant these bombs, to blame muslim civillians everytime is very easy the Uzbek government who tortures and don't give damn about its people is also accused if they can boil and torture its people who would put it past them to plant bombs and blame so and so!
'Muslim countries failed. Soon America will show them what human decency means, and if they don't listen, America will show them what cluster bombs mean'.
At last. You have shown your true colours.
It took me nearly a year to set you up to fail, and finally you cracked.
Now you can stop fooling yourself and move on with life.
Terror is a natural reaction to opression. I do not think that the muslim countries have a responcibility to look after the uzbekis, but I do think that there should be much more international muslim cooperation... perhaps, if there were, these attacks could have been avoided.
But Imdad make a good point. The US almost never lets nations work out their own porblems in their own ways; they make suggestions, then threats, then they bomb the hell out of the major cities, which, if you ask me, is a form of terrorism in itself, and, let's face it, We'd all rather 20 innocent people to be killed by psychotic, disgruntled extremists than 10 000 innocent people be killed by amerikan bombs.
