Blasts and Shooting in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia (Merged)

Hot off the wires. Shooting is currently going on in the streets of Al-Khobar where some terrorists tried to enter a residential compound, mine  . Reports of a blast are also surfacing. Reports of some terrorists entering the Petroleum center building are also circulating. Petroleum center houses some multi national companies where there is a concentration of western expats.

OK more info. Four places were simultaneously attacked. Petroleum center, Epicot(sp) building, Hail center and Oasis compound. Situation at Petroleum center is under-control with 3 americans and 2 security guards killed. Shooting is still going on in the Oasis compound where at this time of the day there are only wives and childern. A lot of my colleagues liver in that compound so the situation is quite grim at my office.

Foreigners killed in Saudi Arabia

Gunmen have killed five people in Saudi Arabia and taken a number of hostages, security sources have said.
Three foreigners and two Saudi security guards were killed in the attack in the oil-rich eastern city of Khobar.

Security sources said militants were holding an unspecified number of people hostage at a housing compound.

Earlier this month five foreigners were killed in an attack on a petrochemical site in the city of Yanbu, and a German was killed last week in Riyadh.

Khobar, 400km (250 miles) north-east of Riyadh, is one of the centres of the Saudi oil industry, in which foreigners play a key role.

Witnesses said the gunmen wore military-style dress and used a small car and a sports utility vehicle.

Attacks on foreigners

The Saudi government launched a high-profile assault on militants following a triple suicide bombing in Riyadh last May, which killed 35 people including nine bombers.

In November, 17 people died when suicide bombers struck at another compound housing mainly Arab foreign workers.

There has been a string of suicide bombings and attacks on Westerners over the last year.

Haris,

Yes I live in Oasis, I recently moved from EuroVillage into Oasis. Now the news is so fudged up with rumors that it is difficult to know what is the truth and what is made up. I have no qualms about my ID, I work for Halliburton, we have been locked down in our facility where at this time there are probably 200 western expats in the building. We are not allowed to go out and they are not letting anyone in either. So no lunch today.

Petroleum center is right next to the DHL building. I have heard that they have a few hostages in there, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes and BJ services has offices in the Building. I know for sure that a Shell guy has been shot dead and one woman in Oasis has been shot in her legs and is in surgery in Saad hospital.

I have heard of two hostage situations in Petroleum center and in Oasis where they have a lebanese family hostage, wallah alam what is true. I have just been told that I could go home?????

So I have decided to go to the Euro Village pool, that is if they let me in.

too bad..My dad was passing by Hail center when all this happen..he saw two foreigner , one Pakistani, one indian dead there..
it was about around 9:00 local time..
Situation in my office is not good either..people are bit scred from all this..

God! it has trurned into such high drama...if this can happen in Alkhobar and that too at such an imp and secure area...it can happen anywhere in any part of the world...the world isnt a safe place to live anymore. we are not safe in our homes. guys alkhobar is one of those places where theres onbe isolated crime done in a decade and ppl talk of it for years and years with horror. alkhobar is place where this stuff seems almost impossible...
the saudi forces seem incompetent when in comes to handling extreme situation. they are definitely not trained enough and have no experience. why dont the call in the units of the Pakistani forces they have there on deputation...? or perhaps even the american GIs. imagine a saudi soldier in SWAT action..will it work?

May Allah bless the departed and may the captured be freed soon.

any more updates on what they terrorists want...?

Ashtray, thanks for the updates! :k:
