I wonder if this is the work of “good Taliban”?

KABUL: An Afghan general says the death toll from a suicide car bombing in the country’s eastern Paktika province has climbed to 89, with more than 40 people wounded.

The blast took place on Tuesday when the bomber detonated his explosives-packed vehicle near a crowded market and a mosque in the Urgun district of Paktika province.

Gen Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the Defence Ministry spokesman, says the military is providing helicopters and ambulances to transport the victims to the provincial capital, Sharan.

Azimi says 42 people were wounded in the explosion and some 20 shops were destroyed.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Patika province is located in the southeastern Afghanistan and borders Pakistan.

Earlier, another roadside bomb ripped through a minivan carrying employees of the presidential palace in eastern Kabul on Tuesday, killing two passengers, Afghan officials said.

The explosion struck in the morning hours as the vehicle was taking the palace staffers to work, said Gul Agha Hashimi, the chief of criminal investigations with the Kabul police.

There were seven staffers on board the van, all employees of the palace’s media office.

The blast occurred as the vehicle was passing by several shops and residential homes.

The explosion also wounded five other people inside the minivan, including the driver, said Hashimi, speaking to reporters at the site of the blast. “One passenger survived unharmed,” he added.

Kabul police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai said it was a remotely detonated device planted along the midsection of a main road.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement sent to reporters.

Roadside bombings are a major threat to both Afghan security forces and civilians across the country.

Such attacks have escalated as the Taliban intensify their campaign ahead of the US-led foreign forces’ withdrawal by the end of 2014.

Taliban have denied this attack. And why will they do this now that they have clear road to kabul once ISAF runs away.

Even if its the work of the "Good Taliban", once Pakistan started the operation in NWA it was the responsibility of Afghans/Americans to prevent their movement towards Afghanistan.

Afghan Taliban have denied ths attack. They do not hit civilians. Northern forces of ahmad shah masood and Abdullah abdullah are involved in ths attack. Its my opinion. The lion of Panjsher, ahmad shah masood, used to kill civilians during his rule... May be, his companions are behind ths attack.

Re: Blast in Afghanistan kills 89, wounds 40

Please tell me you're joking.

Re: Blast in Afghanistan kills 89, wounds 40

No, i am not joking. afghan talibans always said that they do nt hit civilians. They are targeting US and Natto troops in afganistan. They are not like TTP.

Re: Blast in Afghanistan kills 89, wounds 40

@Princejall, I really hope I do not offend you and I apologise if I do but…

Anyone who believes that they do not hit civilians is either very naive, very much deluded or both. When they (the Taliban) first started shelling Kabul in early 1995, the shelling was indiscriminate and most definitely killed civilians. In their attempts to disrupt the 2004 elections, civilians were also killed and this was most definitely deliberate.

Source: Family members who were there and later fled to the UK as a result. I’ve also visited in recent years and I’ve observed that among those injured in blasts are children, women, or random passers by that were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Are they combatants? I don’t think so.

Secondly, they can claim whatever they like and it doesn’t make it fact.

Re: Blast in Afghanistan kills 89, wounds 40

ur familay memberz were in afganistan and later fled to UK. I still have my family memberz in afganistan, and they often tel us stories, so i do not need ur reference and story. What happaned in 1995, it was a civial war. And nothern forces were also involved in civilian deaths. But right now taliban are fighting against Natto US and UK, for the independance of their country. And they are not killing civilians, right now. I hope u will nt mind

Re: Blast in Afghanistan kills 89, wounds 40

I still have family there too and often visit (last visit was in June 2012). In fact, most of my father's family still lives in Kabul (I think I've mentioned it before that I'm not Pakistani). I actually intend to visit in the fall, so I am not the stereotypical disconnected person living in the west, who simply believes what they read in the paper (if that is what you thought).

Let's agree to disagree on that last part because I have observed something completely different to what you state.
