First of all, I agree that a blasphemy law should be there to deter people from insulting each other’s religion and important religious personalities. It should not be concerned with the sensitivities of the Muslims only. Also blasphemy should be clearly defined as what constitutes blasphemy and what doesn’t come under blasphemy. Also apart from some state level deterrence, it would be great if assault of pen or speech be responded in similar way i.e., assaults of rajpal, rushdie, geert wilders, pat robertson and so many others should have been responded with books, speeches and other forms of media. We need to educate people about our great prophet(pbuh) rather than telling them that we can only raise swords against your words as we are short on intellectual side.

Don’t be naive. The people who insult their prophets will refrain from doing it to our Prophet SAW who they don’t believe in? You can keep writing articles to rebuttle or us Internet or Videos, but this will not prevent them to keep doing what they do. Yes, by replying with intellect using those medias will inspire people and propagate Islam, as it has been the case, but its essential for Ummah to take action to not let them do the blasphemy. This is the core of Imaan for a Muslim.

The execution of a proven blasphemous is only implemented within sharia jurisdiction. Outside of the sharia law, you can condemn, boycott, protest, write/publish, use diplomatic channels on govt level, any way possible to make your case to the country/region where that person resides. We have example of Emperor of Iran who ripped Prophet’s letter and Prophet SAW prediction in response that came true in following years. So Allah has taken revenge from the blasphemous several times where he/she was out of reach of Islamic land. We SHOULD NOT change the way we have this law for 1400 years. Allah commanded to respect others’ religion and their temples, and we expect the same from others.

Another aspect beside teasing and testing our mettle is that if we accept their demand on this matter than one after another all Sharia law will be called barbaric. Where US citizens, in the light of weekend shooting of Gifford are saying that their system is not working. Murdered on Wednesday and hung on Saturday in public was the best justice human ever had where a 10 year old son is taken by his father to show execution and swift justice so he won’t even think of commuting such crime even in his dream.
Human psychology and crime go hands in hands, and some illness are only cured by surgery not medicines. Or spend 50 more years of violent societies and then go back to basics and tear apart the fake human rights costume we are wearing.
