You cannot present Hirsi and likes of her as shining example of muslims or ex-muslims for that matter. I understand the hardship the may have suffered and that she did not want to marry the guy her family arranged for her. For that, she had the right to refuse w/out facing any consequences. Islam gives women that right.
So how does she go off interpreting Quran and labeling the religion as being violent?....She's not a Muslim Scholar. It's like asking a English professor to teach a class in Anatomy. It just doesn't add up! You can dress it up any way you like. How do mad mullahs and crazy clerics get off interpreting Quran and labeling the religion as being non violent? How do Islamic societies justify they are not violent against women's rights?
Yes i agree women are often treated badly, but it is not because of the religion or what the book says. The book is not even followed, and if it were everyone would be happy. The people who inflict any suffering on women do so because they lack the knowledge/education and are victims to their surroundings and teachings from either family/friends/society, etc....So you agree then its not written in the Islamic faith a woman is forbidden to wear perfume , jewellery, and shoes which will attract attention to her?
It's sad because people often don't understand or follow the religion, and their acts get labeled as the teachings of the religion.
If you were to represent yourself to others as Muslim, you would want to make sure you're not on the extreme end, whether right or left. Be modest so others aren't misled thinking what you're doing is Islam indeed and then later they find out it's not. WHAT does it mean to be modest. Wearing hijab, burqa? **The BIGGEST LIE is hijab, burqa are made for women to wear because it is written in the Islamic teachings. **
Quran is not a voilent book and it does not suppress anyone's rights. People have got to understand that, and stop labeling an entire religion, and mind you, one of the FASTEST growing religions as the manifesto of extremism.
THE REASON IT IS THE FASTEST RISING IS BECAUSE THE BIRTHRATE PER FAMILY IS THE HIGHEST. DON'T CONFUSE THIS WITH NUMBER OF CONVERSIONS as it mispeaks the facts.
Overall, statistics for conversion are hard to come by , specifically in Islamic countries were apostasy (going from muslim to either jewish, hindi, or christianity) is punishable by death. Alot of data is based on birth or population.
If one were to look at Australian conversions or numbers of a certain religious sect on the rise then it would be BHUDDISM while Hinduism lately has been on the greater rise. This is arguably due to immigration and not conversion per se.
As for Islam, census taking do agree it is on the rise in the west but this is due to the number of people immigrating the the many kids born.
*WICCA has seen a HUGE GROWTH IN FOLLOWERS, and as more people are becoming educated on this faith more are becoming drawn to its spiritual/religious teachings. Based solely on conversion rates it has been noted WICCANS have more people converting to wiccanism solely on conversion rather then birthrate. Even though a very small tiny population it has accounted for a very large conversion rate. *
