Tony Blair offered a partial apology to the British Labour party on Tuesday for waging war in Iraq.
Reuters reports in his nearest yet to a “mea culpa”, Blair told Labour’s annual conference: “the evidence about Saddam having actual biological and chemical weapons turned out to be wrong.”
The Prime Minister said he could apologise for wrong information but he could not apologise for removing Saddam.
“The world is a better place with Saddam in prison - not in power,” Mr Blair said.
Delegates applauded warmly. Critics said the party would unite to win a fresh term in power next year.
