Black

Re: Black

The movie may be called Black but every delicate emotion that has been rendered in the movie has most definitely bestowed new colors to the art of film-making.

:k: :k: up!! and Hats off to Sanjay Leela Bhansali – this guy’s absolutely brilliant!
The only thing I’d warn the audiences about is that you’re prolly gonna lose a lot of toxins when you watch it on the big screen. It made me cry throughout the movie… and I could hear people at the back sniffing most of the way.

Also, I for one did not find anything superfluous in the movie – even that kissing scene which admittedly made me uncomfortable… it was necessary esp. when you’re narrating someone’s biography, you can’t discard as major a detail as this. Hence, I hope that desi people can for once discuss it in context and not sensationalize and scandalize it for no reason.

Amitabh is brilliant, but Rani has most definitely impressed me by her acting skills in the movie… she is probably the most inspiring factor about this film.

Lastly, although released worldwide as a mainstream Indian movie, I still deem it more as a niche art house film…

O.k. I have to go back to my list and add this in the top 5 Indian movies ever made! can’t wait for the DVD!!!

Re: Black

^ yeaaah u liked it and didnt make a big deal of the "kiss"

aww and u cried hehe... my friend was crying from the first scene...

Re: Black

saddzz I was moved by Rani's expressions in the very first scene where she gets out of the car after hearing about Debraj. I was like woaah!!! how'd she get to put on that face and expression - again, her acting skills plus Bhansali's direction did the job.

The person I watched it with, we both came out crying but then again, this movie is perhaps the best movie to come out of Bollywood in at least the last 7 years. The last movie I cried in was Khamoshi (again, Bhansali).

Re: Black

u know what, i missed the first few scenes..!

i actually cant say which scene captured me the most… every scene was a complete delight.. i thought the preview may have made my expectations really high.. but no, like every scene was magical… from the time where michelles younger character says “water” for the first time… to when Michelle as a student disagrees with what the lecturer and explains her point of view… and the part that totally killed me was when she calls up her mum and says she failed… completely captivating..

i actually liked this a lot more than khamoshi.. although nana patekar and seema bidwas (i think thats her name) were superb in khamoshi… :k:

i thought amitabh couldnt get any better either.. BUT.. geez.. i was amazed.. i cant imagine anyone else being able to do that role… just the same as i cant imagine anyone doing Michelle’s

Re: Black

yep this was much better than Khamoshi which at the time seemed as good as it gets.

Re: Black

The Miracle Worker

Re: Black

pitta there is nothing new their bud'.. almost all of the hindi movies r copies. they r either remakes of good tamil and telugu movies or remakes of hollywood movies.

Re: Black

^ yes i agree to u..

Nicols Jhon : thnx alot ... :)

Re: Black

Could the similarity between Black and Miracle worker not stem from the fact that BOTH are based on Helen Keller's life? I mean everything about her cranky childhood, meeting Anne Sullivan, her learning her first word etc will be the same. BTW, I haven't watched both the movies, but I do know what they are about.

Re: Black

Most screenplays for Hollywood or Bollywood are inspired by some real life events or some book or some personalities.

Re: Black

saw it on Saturday and absolutely loved it!!!

Re: Black

I think so.

Re: Black

What brilliant performances by Rani and the little girl who played her! :k:
Amitabh was a bit over the top at times but still a wonderful movie. Although bit too emotional for me :frowning:

Re: Black

I saw it like three days after it came out and I lubed it. Everyone performed brilliantly and there were no stupid corny songs in between. However is Black a remake of some hollywood movie...I believe Helen Keller.

Re: Black

i have dis movie now seemz gud n since raniii is in it
so yea well i heaqrd its gud
tfs

Re: Black

RB, I also thought the same after watching the movie but realized later that his role demanded him to be that way… if you’ve been communicating with deaf/mute/blind people all your life, then you’re bound to develop accentuated senses and actions… so what might have seemed as over-acting in the movie was actually a deliberate attempt to show how these teachers are in real life.

Re: Black

Hellen Keller was a real person hun not a movie character
If someone is making a movie based off of the life of Helen Keller they are not copying a hollywood movie  Yes HW did make a movie based on the life of Helen Keller (also numerous plays have been performed on her life) called the Miracle Worker, which I believe was based on a biography of HK.

Re: Black

You do have a point Umar. I think my main gripe was with his intro scene where he is delivering this monologue about his life/students/his worth etc.
But I thought he was brilliant in the scenes where he was teaching Michelle how to speak/sign.

Re: Black

Amazing Movie!
