black screen

i have a dell notebook and the problem is that since few days some strange noise comes from the computer and the screen gets black, i have to restart then using the power button and that also makes a sound at that time. this usually happens if i move the computer or if its on a table. as long as its on bed and i dont move it then it works fine (till now). any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Re: black screen

its possessed thrwo it oput as ssoon as possibnle !!! :teary1:

Re: black screen

It might be over heating. What's the table made of? Try putting a fan in its direction and see if it resovles it.

Re: black screen

gamma what do you mean?
tofibaba the table is made of wood its my desk.
why does it overheat only on a table i wonder or if i try to move it, like picking it up…
 :frowning:

Re: black screen

It could be cuz of a failed fan. When you pick it up it may start working or something.

Re: black screen

if it makes sound from behind the screen, then there might be something wrong with the tupes tht are behind the lcd.

Re: black screen

I think the ribbon cables for the LCD that pass through the hinges between the upper lid and lower base are getting pinched. They are getting pinched because, the hinges have failed or are failing. They will usually make noise if the display screen is moved or the whole laptop is moved.

Re: black screen

how to solve the problem if thats what it is…?

Re: black screen

it doesnt make sound from behind the screen but the sound comes from the bottom side of computer..slightly on the right side..

Re: black screen

I think her hdd is about to die!

Re: black screen

LOL thank you pagaldeewani that made me feel better

Re: black screen

If the hinges are faulty, the noise should come from the hinges. Try to open and close the screen and see if the noise is coming from the hinges. If the hinges are failing, you have to get them fixed through a service center.

Which Dell laptop model do you have? Mine has fan on the bottom right side. As Tofibaba pointed out earlier, it could be a failing fan.

Personally, i don’t think this problem will come from a failing HDD.

Re: black screen

i have inspiron 9100, one fan is on bottom right side, if its a failing fan can it cause the laptop screen go black?

Re: black screen

A failing fan will cause your processor to heat up giving it heat strokes before it will wither into nothingness.

Re: black screen

and it will start working again for some time once you restart?

Re: black screen

Well! There is that possibility that the fan motor is heating up. However, I would recommend that you try to find out exactly where the noise is coming from. There are not many moving parts inside a computer.

Re: black screen

i will take it to some computer repair store, thank you.

Re: black screen

there could be cables problem, may b when you move the computer they move from their original place... check the cables

Re: black screen

i took it to a technician and they cant seem to figure out what could be causing this. first they said it could be virus, after i told them i did a format AFTER the problem started but it didnt get fixed they said it could be motherboard... anyway..
I was just thinking.. i use linksys router and notebook adapter. could it be possible that the adapter may be causing this? just want to make sure before i get a new computer.

Re: black screen

By the way it doesnt happen only if i move it coz it happens now even if i keep it on bed.. sometimes it happens more frequently like every few seconds or minutes, sometimes it works fine for hours.
