Black Muslims, followers of a predominantly black religious movement in the United States, who profess Islam as their faith. The origins of the black Muslim movement are found in two black self-improvement organizations that began shortly before World War I (1914-1918): the Moorish Science Temple of America, founded by Prophet Drew Ali, and the Universal Negro Improvement Association, founded by Marcus Garvey. The Nation of Islam, the most prominent organization within the black Muslim movement, was led by Elijah Muhammad from 1934 to 1975. In the 1960s Muhammad's supremacy was challenged by Malcolm X.
Formerly, black Muslims held that the white person is the Devil and advocated the establishment of a separate African-American homeland in the United States. In the mid 1970s black Muslims downplayed black nationalism and admitted nonblack members. A dissident faction led by Louis Farrakhan later reasserted the principles of black separatism. The Nation of Islam has established accredited schools across the country. It rehabilitates convicts, drug addicts, and alcoholics. The movement is estimated to have more than 100,000 followers.

Malcolm X (1925-1965), black American leader, born in Omaha, Nebraska, as Malcolm Little. Malcolm X was the son of a Baptist minister who was murdered after receiving threats from the Ku Klux Klan. While in prison for burglary as a young man, Malcolm became interested in the teachings of Elijah Muhammad, the leader of the black Muslims, also called the Nation of Islam. When Malcolm was released in 1952, he took the name Malcolm X. By the early 1960s Malcolm was a prominent spokesperson for the Nation of Islam. In 1964 he broke with the Nation of Islam and formed a secular black nationalist group, the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU). Following a pilgrimage to the Islamic holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, he renounced his previous teaching that all whites are evil and began advocating racial solidarity. In 1965 Malcolm was assassinated by men allegedly connected with the black Muslims

Hey thanks for the input. :)Really is informative.

So that means the black Muslims aren't really Muslims... And I guess it is a part of the plan to destroy the name of Islam isn't it?
I have heard that Mohammad Ali and Mailk Abdulaziz (Mike Tyson) also belong to this sect.

And how they say their prayers?? Is it same like ours?

Asalamu Alaikum,

This thread made me kind of sick. Perhaps the statements made were in haste, but I should hope that everyone understand that there is a difference between being a black Muslim and a follower of the Nation of Islam.

The Nation of Islam followers are considered out of the fold of Islam, as Jewels explained. You can find lots of information about them on various websites if you are interested.

But, and this is important, we should not be discriminatory in terms of race to decide what kind of beliefs a Muslim has. There are lots of black Muslims of African-American and Somalian desent that are Muslims just like us. Just remember that Bilal, one of the Sahabah's of the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) was black too.

Dear Yaqoob: When I saw this thread this morning, I was little surperised too, thanks for clearing it out.

Dear Dee Dee:
The topic of your thread is little confusing:
Do you really mean "All Black Muslim or you only mean the People who follow the Nation of Islam:

Black Muslims are as good muslims as any other Muslim. They are Muslims by any means.
If you are talking aobut the people who follow the Nation of Islam, that is a different case.

Assalaamu 'alaikum,

Yacoob and msaqibj,

Jazaak'Allaah khair brothers to point these facts out.

Dee Dee,

Muhammad Ali used to belong to the Nation of 'Islam'(NOI). However, a few years after he stopped boxing he denounced the Nation, and entered into the fold of Islam as a Sunni.

Mailk Abdulaziz (Mike Tyson), does not belong to NOI, and neither has he at any stage. I remember one of the Imaams of New York, Siraj Wahaj, came to London a few years back and was asked this question. The Imaam used to often visit Malik Abdulaziz in prison, and reassured us that he was not a member of NOI, but was a Sunni.

W'salaam
kind regards

Okay that topic is confusing..
msaqibj
I wanted to talk about this sect.. I know that all the balcks are not the followers of this sect, I live in the Middle east and most of the Arabs are also black and I guess they follow Islam better than I do.

As I mentioned above my information is very little, thanks for clearing things up for the others, Yaqoob. :)

Hasnain thanks :)
and Jazaak Allah. :)

i will not comment on whether or not they shall be called muslims, i however would say that their picture of islam is not a particularly impressive one.

together with the jehad group of arab-afghani-pakistani origin, this is another group of muslims involved in terrorist activities, thus defaming islam o the maximum.
