This has happened many times in different ways.

While im sleeping alone,i would suddenly feel my body being crushed under someones weight,i would try to move and scream but he/they would not let me,then its a fight between me and them.I keep trying to move,to get up,to open my eye,to speak, and yes i would sometimes abuse them while doing this and usually i win,as after a min or 2,they run away and i wake up.this sometimes happen twice/thrice at night while sometimes doesnt happen at all any night.

Hi SargeCandy,

I’m not trying to invalidate your belief that you were the victim of black magic. Because I do believe that black magic exists. But I wanted to discuss the phenomenon of **“sleep paralysis” **with you. Are you familiar with it?

Many people have experienced sleep paralysis similar to as you have described. Sleeping has stages…one of them is the REM (rapid eye movement) stage during which your body is sort of paralyzed but your mind is still somewhat alert. During sleep paralysis…people tend to see nightmares that feel very realistic. They might dream that they are being chased by some evil being. Or they might feel a sensation as though they are being crushed by the weight of some malevolent force. Some people complain they feel as though somebody is sitting on their chest.

The nightmare from sleep paralysis seems to last forever…but in reality it is usually a few seconds or minutes. During the nightmare…your brain is alert and tells you “Wake up…you’re having a nightmare, open your eyes, and get up from the bed”…but you’re body is temporarily paralyzed. And you’re unable to open your eyes or move your body. Several studies show that many people will experience sleep paralysis at least once or twice in their life.

This phenomenon is known by different names in various cultures. In some cultures it is known as the devil, witch, jinn, goblin, demon, hag that sits on your chest or comes to attack you in your sleep.

Here’s some more interesting information. In Islam…there is a jinn known as Jathoum or Al-Khaaniq (the strangler)…or Al-Naydalaan who causes this feeling of being pressured with weight or strangled during your sleep. The sensation of being strangled/crushed is called Al-kaboos.

Recite the Ayatul Kursi and the 3 Kuls prior to going to sleep.
