Black Box.

In case of a plane crash black box does not get destroyed. So why do they not make the whole air plane that way ? I would be will willing to pay extra to ride such an air plane.
What is the black box made of ?

Re: Black Box.

I donnno but this is the sort of questions that lead to great inventions.

It is easy to dismiss it as 'weight' related issue - I'd suspect in addition to whatever it is made of, it has to be structurally engineered (suspension, fire proofing etc) to survive impact

Re: Black Box.

Black box is made of titanium, very hard to crush metal

If you make a car out of titanium and crash it against the wall at 50 MPH, hardly anything would happen to the car,

But because Titanium won’t be able to absorb any energy from the crash, it will transfer the whole impact of crash to the occupant of that car. That could literally break all the bones of the driver or passenger’s body.

It is like you jumping from the roof and falling on the mattress (that can absorb energy of the impact) vs. floor (that will not absorb any energy and your body has to absorb energy, breaking your bones maybe)

If Planes were made of titanium (vs. Aluminum) a regular hard landing would injure the passengers let alone crash landing that could kill some (normal crash landing does not do that)

StirCrasy is kind of right, more then the structure surviving the impact; its occupant needs to survive it. Planes, helicopters, cars.. all of them are built with that priority in mind

Re: Black Box.

^ good points

Re: Black Box.

safety one thing.. u cudnt get it off the ground to begin with.. well unless u have engines bigger then the plane on it

Re: Black Box.

How all the flight data in the black box survives after a crash ?

Re: Black Box.

Titanium is strong but not a heavy metal, so plane would not weigh that much different if titanium is used

:rotfl:

to chachu black box main information ki hadian nahi hoti isleya us ko kuch nahi hota :hehe:?

Re: Black Box.

Zobi tum bhi na .. baal kee khaal utarrti ho :smack:

Re: Black Box.

Hadian tow nahi hoti laikin unki aik physical form to hoti hay na ? Then why it does not get destroyed ?

Re: Black Box.

what I don't understand is why we still rely so much on blackbox data. why cant they be transmitted real time?

Re: Black Box.

I think they do transmit real time .. Black box comes in handy if transmission breaks off, that happnes almost all the time with in last few seconds of crash

It used to get destroy, when the were using reel based magnetic tapes. Now they use solid state like Falsh based memory with very little moving parts and information can be retrieved even if internal parts are destroyed
