BJP leader lists error: didn't woo Muslims

About time BJP realized the rules of the game

BJP leader lists error: didn’t woo Muslims

New Delhi: Senior BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday said the party’s ticket distribution could have been “better” and it should have had some Muslim candidates.
“The Muslim vote in Uttar Pradesh went in favour of the Congress. If some tickets were given to Muslims it would have been better,” said Joshi, who was elected from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on Saturday. “Our campaign could not reach the masses. We are going to discuss in meetings with state level leaders and scrutinise where we went wrong."
Joshi, who was Human Resources Minister in the National Democratic Alliance government, said the party’s election campaign had “perhaps” failed to reach the grassroots level and attract the common man.

Joshi said BJP leader L K Advani’s decision to step down as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and accept responsibility for the BJP’s electoral debacle must not be seen “negatively”.
“If Advaniji says anything he says it in the interest of party members. He is the most experienced leader in the party. This cannot be criticised if he has taken the responsibility for the loss,” said Joshi.
" Advaniji is the most important and senior-most leader. He takes decisions after due consideration. He is setting a good example," said Joshi.
Asked if he wanted the Leader of Opposition’s post, Joshi said: “I am not in any race. But if I am given any responsibility by the party, I do not shy away. I am a humble BJP worker and will do as my party bids.”
Joshi rejected allegations that Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi’s alleged communal speeches affected the party’s all round performance,
“Don’t drag him (Varun) into this. He did not affect votes outside Uttar Pradesh,” said Joshi.

Re: BJP leader lists error: didn't woo Muslims

I think by giving a few seats to the muslims would'nt have made a difference.

I think the BJP lost due to the following

1)When the Election Commission requested BJP to withdraw Varun as the candidate, the BJP should have acted magnanimously and withdrawn Varun. People perceieve the EC as independent and the slight against the EC was not taken lightly.

2) Portraying Manmohan Singh as the weakest PM didnt go too well with the masses. Everybody knew that it was because of Manmohan Singh the nuclear deal was signed.

3) Voting agains the nuclear deal was a big mistake. The BJP came across as just another power hungry party. People very well realised that if the BJP was in power they would have gone ahead with the deal with more or less the same clauses.

I think this elections were more of a BJP defeat than a congress victory. What say..

This has become clear to every party that only the party who takes along with it allthe spectrum of masses can only succeed. If BJP wants a mandate for them they should follow the following points:
1. They should take Muslims into confidence that they are not against them, and believe in secularism.
2. They should induct Muslims into their cadres in large numbers, and consequently bring them in forefront as candidates in elections.
3. They should also negate the negative propaganda against them from the people like Lalu, Paswan and Mulayam, who have done only lip service to the status of minorities and exploited their votes.
4. It is heartening to find that states ruled by BJP has better status of Muslims but BJP should shun its sentimental Ram Madir-Babri Masjid rhetoric and should keep its attention to the welfare of common man only.

Yusuf, Cant agree more! Political parties of any nation

Most of the political parties are just there to satisfy corporates!

Re: BJP leader lists error: didn't woo Muslims

Ha ha .. quite funny - In non-muslim countries, these people want the constant re-assurance
of secularism. In muslim countries, they easily and OPENLY declare that secularism is not compatible with Islam....

Well, the silver lining is that at least the commie Bas#@$ds got a nice whooping in the rectum...

Varun and Modi proved counterproductive for BJP too. Poor guys, couldnt amuse hinu voters enough by their mad rhetoric.

Long live Indian secular democracy.

India is secular because Hindus are secular, not because Muslims/Christians/other religious groups want it to be secular. I guess its good for religious minorities (read Muslims). They can have their cake & eat it too :)

Re: BJP leader lists error: didn’t woo Muslims

^^

It is not just the hindus who are secular. Everybody is secular. I see that you are having the cake and eating it too residing in the US…:hoonh:

Re: BJP leader lists error: didn't woo Muslims

^ You are missing the point here, dude.

Hindus comprise 80% of India's population and if they were not secular, the other 20% couldn't do squat.

Imagine a scenario where most Hindus vote for RSS/Shiv Sena etc. Do you think the other 20% being secular will help in anyway ?

And my residing in the US has nothing to do with this basic fact.

Re: BJP leader lists error: didn't woo Muslims

i completely agree with Punjabee in USA........But over the years, BJP has been losing its urban middle class voter base because of their inflexible stand on certain issues...I think they should give up the Ram mandir thing....i don't see a temple or a mosque coming up there in future...in stead they should focuss more on real ground issues...

Re: BJP leader lists error: didn't woo Muslims

this is like the republican party in USA trying to get blacks to vote for it

and thats not even talking about terrorists like modi being a part of this hindu nationalist party

I am not missing any point here dude. India needs to be secular. Being a hindu country would have its own repercussions. Let us face the facts here.

Also imagine a scenario wherein the world over there are no secular countries. This is a pure hypothetical situation but still.

So why should only us non-muslims be the ones to declare their countries Secular?
Apparently its only us who feel the need to be fair to all irrespective of religion. Muslims hate the word secularism itself - unless they are enjoying its benefits.

Hahahahhahah.....good one.
Post of the day for me, just needs to be moved to JOKES section though.

No wonder - there is no counter....
Lets do a count of how many muslim countries are secular.... and how many non-muslim (AKA human) countries have a declared state religion....

I think you got the answer,,,,,

So you agree that India is secular because Hindus are secular ? I don't see any rebuttal of that point in your post.

Re: BJP leader lists error: didn't woo Muslims

I totally agree that Hindus are secular. Where did I say that Hindus were not secular. Being a christian living in a hindu majority country, I have never felt discriminated against based on my religion.

I just said most of the Indians are secular and that included the minorities as well.

Thanks ! I rest my case :)
