Do you read any dua’s or Bismillah before starting to cook?
Sometimes I get told off my elderly ladies in the family on how the new generation ignores the dua’s that bring barakah to the food we eat. Perhaps its true , or not … dont know …
I used to,and still do most of the times...but once I remember I was putting soaked rice in a pot of boiled water and read Bismillah, when an aunt said that you are not supposed to read Bismillah when pouring something over a flame(a pot over a flame)
I am not sure how correct her statement is ...any one ever heard this before...??
My daughters have reminded us to read duas before everything...when I see my choti stop before entering the bathroom to read the dua or wait a second before saying the dua for milk, food, etc...I feel embarassed and try to remind myself.
I agree Sara , no harm to it really … we must do it irrespective … infact , I do feel that when i remember reading dua’s before cooking , the food does somehow come out better …
Nikki, mashallah thats so cute
Chipsie, never heard that pot thing before but it doesnt make any sense … seems to me like a superstition …
i always read it... somehow the food honestly DOES turn out better... or maybe im hallucinating.. kher.. either way... i read it... takes a second... i also recite short duas or astaghfaars as many times as i can cuz i find it boring sitting and doing it on a tazbi... chal thay phir thay its much better for me
Khawa that sounds good ... and doing the tasbeeh's while cooking is one thing my mom did as well ... I am sure you are not hallucinating regards the food being good , coz I have personally experienced it many atimes too ... so it is a fact ..
My dadi jee used to say that when you start cooking by reciting Allah's name, the food becomes more satiating. Which is again something that I have felt to be quite true.
When I started cooking, I used to recite durood shareef continuously and food always turned out great. It was a habit until I stopped cooking for almost a year and now I am trying to bring that habit back inshaAllah!!!
I think...reciting **dua *before starting to do something...the peron appears to be settled within himself to carry out the job most effectively and effeciently... :)
PS: Ever travelled by PIA...the captain always recites *Dua Safr **before the take off...these days they use audio tapes which have lesser impact on the soul of the so-called disignated reciter...
