I was watching a docu about the dead sea scrolls and jesus…anyway they showed arab christians performing some baptist ceremony. anyway the priest starts off with “bismillah”.
I thought it was quite cool!

Its cool because the the arab christians use the same language.
For God its Allaah and In the name of God its Bismillaah and also say salamvalekum.
Go read the Oxford Dictionary for word Allaah (hope it hasnt changed though).

Because the Arabic meaning for Bism-i-Allah is "With the name of God" ... what would you have liked them to say instead? Allah is not reserved for muslims you know ... the Assyrian Aramaic (language of Jesus) equivalent for Allah is Alaaha ...

To add here that one of the oldest bilingual "muslim" papyri found are those of Umayyad rule, and it actually translates the word Allah as -ηο θεοσ μονσ- or -ho theos monos- to indicate that it is not, as commonly thought, a proper noun.
