Easy way is to cook the regular salan type thing (not too much liquid) but add kewra pani, saffron, lemon juice, cumin seeds, black elaichi, green elaichi.
At the end, mix chopped green chillies, green coriander, garlic and ginger paste, garam masala with yogurt and add it in there. Layer the salan with rice, sprinkling fried onions and fried tomato slices in between. Then dum or bake in oven.
sara, speaking from my own experience, when you have just boiled the rice they're wet and if you try to mix biryani chicken masala in it without first putting on dum then there's a risk of rice breaking or becoming too soft so try to just layer them first and mix after 15-20 mins of dum on low heat.
