Re: Birthing Partner
^ how is it embarassing? imho, your mother gave birth to you pretty much the same way, and your husband impregnated you. they're facts of life- can't be immature about them in labor & delivery!
i guess it really depends on how close they are, but even then, no... because my hubby would never be uncomfortable about it or say no to me having mum there because he knows i would want her there and really, its all about me (delivering the baby) at that point, isn't it? i, myself, have told her she can come in after the epidural when i'm calmer hopefully and not liable to talk trash (which hubby will put up with but might offend her!), and i would like her to leave when it comes time to push, because welcoming our baby, esp. our first, should really be just about us.
plus, practically speaking, if its a long labor, hubby will need some relief to walk around, go get something to eat, get a breather, etc. and i'd rather mum be there with me than just the nurse.
mind you, i haven't had this (stubborn) baby yet so who knows, watch for my birth story! it could change :p

It really depends on the family...it wasn't embarrassing for my husband or my mom, both loved the experience and inshallah will be there for any future babies.
Re: Birthing Partner
Hubby and mum until it comes time to push, then mum knows she's gotta step out so Hubby and I can have that moment when we first see the Bean iA. Unless I'm a cranky biatch thanks to the pain, in which case mum might make her exit sooner!
We are only allowed two people in l&d and Hubby has strict instructions to keep his mother out! The nurses will also be told. I'm not close to mil at all, so having her near will only stress me out which is a no-no then.
I did the same. Baby arrived 2 days before MIL's flight (Thank God) but no way I would have had her during pushing time. Oh yes, my doula (labor assistant) was with me too.
Re: Birthing Partner
not there yet...but when and if the time comes, hopefully my husband and mom will be present.
Re: Birthing Partner
I dont understand why women would not want their husband in the room with them!
Re: Birthing Partner
^I used to say that I didnt want my husband in there.. I just didnt feel comfortable.. then I was pregnant and initially I didnt want him to come to the docs appt with me, again because I felt shy infront of other people, but then as the pregnancy progressed, I realized how it was soo important to both of us and how only two of us share the bond with the baby that no one else does and it kind of helped me move into the phase where I absolutely want my husband in the room!!It was a transition over time!
Everyone is different, it's their personal choice and we should just respect that instead of picking on details!!

SGC...shouldn't baby be here by now? Maybe baby is waiting to come on my birthday which is on Tuesday? Sounds like you've made up ur mind about having the epidural?? Hahaha!
Re: Birthing Partner
i had my husband the first time… my mom really wanted to be there but we had never discussed it…its good she wasnt cuz it took forever to have midget…
but this time around … we learned from our first baby and actually talked bout who could be in the room! to think it had never crossed our minds ![]()
so now husband and mom can both be tehre… im comfy with them both… my mom is too… husband still feels a bit weird bout it but i keep telling him.. hey.. its my privates exposed here.. only i have the right to feel weird bout anything ![]()
husband did a great job the first time around… and im sure he will be great this time too… my mom is a rock when it comes to difficult times like these so that would be a bonus…
i wouldnt have my mil there although she would be good too.. but the woman would faint at the first scream… hehe

baby should be here by now but apparently it loves mama so much its refusing to leave the premises. eviction papers will be served on tuesday iA if he/she doesn't make an appearance before then! so you never know.... it could be waiting for your birthday! or my mum's! which is on the 12th iA.
