Birthday Celebration

Is it about celebration of one specific day, date and month? or celebration of a person when he/she was born? So what is the significant behind celebration of a birthday?

In cultural conventions many cultures celebrate the birthday some of them is related to their religion like Jewsih celebrate bar and bat mitzvah on their 12th birthday.

In India, this ceremony practicied as symbolizing in Hindu Brahmin of ones coming age known as ‘Upanayana’. Many other cultures from Hindus celebrate the birth anniversary day every year when the day that corresponds to lunar month or solar month (Sun Signs Nirayana System – Sourava Mana Masa) of birth and has the same asterism (Star / Nakshatra) as that of the date of birth. That age is reckoned whenever Janma Nakshatra of the same month passes.

The ancient rome enthusiastically celebrate birthdays with hedonistic parties and generous presents.

Early christians reject the practice as inherently pagan.

In Judaism a person’s birthday is a special day for that person’s prayers to be accpeted. The Hebrew Bible, the one single metnion of a celebration being held in commemoration of someones’ day of birth is for the Egyptian Pharaoh which is recored in Genesis.

Buddhism monasteries celebrate the Buddha’s birthday, usually in a highly formal, ritualized manner. They treat Buddha’s statue as if alive, bathing and feeding it.

Sikhism celebrate Guru Nanak’s birthday.

In Islam conservative clerics consider it as an ‘innovation’ of the faith (a bidah). Few muslim clerics saying that celebration of a birthday is permissible.
