Birth Stories

Re: Birth Stories

baby no 2:
at 18 weeks, the doctors came across +1 protein in my urine...by 28 weeks it was +3 and my BP was sky high., i had Pre-Eclampsia..i was admitted into hospital given steroid injections to help strengthen baby's lungs and monitored... till 32 weeks i was in and out of hospital...totally resting but my Bp kept rising.
at this point they gave me medication to bring the Bp down...i started hyperventilating...i was taken to the high dependency unit, a catheter was put in to keep an eye on my kidney function and i was acompanied by a midwife at all times, i chilled out with the midwife, one morning me and my favourite midwife Nisha were sat chatting reminiscing over Charles and Camilla's wedding and preparing to watch the Pope's funeral that the doctor came in and checked my BP, it had gone even higher than usual and i had little urine output....the doc stayed with us for another hour and kept me relaxed but my BP was not dropping...they had no choice but to operate and deliver my baby...i called my hubby...they delivered my baby boy at 33weeks, weighing in at 3lb.12 oz.. they showed him to me, my husband stroked his face and he was whisked off to the neo-natal unit...i had taken a turn for the worst...Bp dropped rapidly...
i was given a photo of my baby a few hours later...he was in an incubator, in a nappy, with all sorts of wires and tubes attached to him...and he was crying....it broke my heart
i never got to see my baby till the next day...they let me cuddle him for 5 minutes...he was so tiny....i hated myself i felt i was to blame for everything
over the next week i recovered and my baby was feeding better(NG tube fed), i then managed to establish breast feeding, my BP was improving...it took 6 weeks for it to regulate.
we took our tiny baby home 15days after he was born...he never needed any oxygen at birth and made brilliant progress....he is now 4 years old and i still consider myself lucky and Thank Allah SWT....he's my very special boy
