After reading all these wonderful birth stories I felt compelled to write mine. So here it goes:
I was 2 days overdue, didn’t have my 40th week appointment because my doctor went out of country and he thought I would be fine and don’t need an appointment (I never got along with him to begin with but decided to stay for that pregnancy only). So I was worried about being overdue and really wanted an appointment. I called my doctor’s office and told the nurse to get me an appointment with someone else for that day as I just don’t feel too good…. She made my appointment and an hour later I was at the new doctor’s office.
The nurse comes in, check my blood pressure and asks that if I ever had high blood pressure. I said no and she said well you DO today. it was 160/100 I believe…
Minutes later the doctor comes running and asking me the whole life history of blood pressure, I never ever had high blood pressure. He told me to go to hospital right away.
So I take my mom to hospital, called my husband who was an hour away at work. Once I got to hospital, they had my room ready and just took me to the room (doctor had called in already for me).
They hooked me up to monitors, did some tests… I had UTI so was given antibiotic for that and was told to wait for the doctor to come induce me. In the mean while an ultra sound was done and baby’s position was fine.
2 hours later doctor comes in, tells me I can’t eat anything… I was starving!!! Well she broke my water and gave me medication for softening the cervix and something for induction… I don’t even remember what it was… half an hour later I started getting contractions….really bad ones, never ending ones… I couldn’t tell the difference from one contraction to the other…. I was told I was 6cm dilated and hour later and to wait some more…about an hour and half later I was already exhausted and hungry….
This went on for another half an hour and doctor came back to check on me, she said my contractions were really fast and baby is not liking it… baby’s heart beat started going up and she recommended doing an emergency C-Section….. Which I agreed to at that point ( I was so sure I was going to have a natural birth and it was a shock at the time that I started crying)
Well, then I was taken for epidural which was rather a relief once I got it after all the contractions…. And was taken to operating room with my husband by my side…. I was talking to my husband about getting scared and he was doing all his best to help me stay calm and in that time I heard my son’s cries… he was handed to my husband and I just thought he was the cutest thing I had ever seen… he weighed 8.5 pounds. Later on I was taken to recovery room for another hour where my mom came to see… and all I kept thinking was I want to see my son again….:)
Well, I stayed in hospital for another 4 days, and it took another 6 weeks to really be able to start walking without pain and all… C-section is very hard in recovery part, I really wish I don’t get it again….
