Birth Plan

So I met with my midwife today and she suggested that I put together a birth plan. She mentioned that even though she knows my wishes and will be there for the birth it would be helpful for the nurses to know my plans as well.

So I’ve started one, so far I have the following headings and then under each heading just a few points outlining what i want…am I missing something ?

  • Labour
  • Pain management/medication
  • Perineal Care
  • Delivery
  • Immediately after the birth
  • Newborn care
  • Postpartum care
  • Breastfeeding

Re: Birth Plan

i have heard that when the time comes, ppl forget everything about the birth plan.

Re: Birth Plan

^^ You have heard right

So I didn’t take any birthing classes, showed up when it was time to push, went through it like a woman is supposed to! They help out bigtime with pretty much everything after the delivery so really, birthplan or no birthplan, you’ll do great Ramsha!!! :hugz:

Re: Birth Plan

Awe thanks…I was actually talking to my mom and she said “birth plan! yeh kia hota hai, bas push kerna bacha nikal ai ga”. I just think the planner in me is trying to control the uncontrollable.

Re: Birth Plan

and you have heard it right...:D

Re: Birth Plan

you have a midwife? i'm envious! mt. sinai has a HUGE waiting list for one, so i'm with my OB now.... your birth plan sounds good! just remember that things might not go exactly according to it, so be flexible and iA all will be well :)

Re: Birth Plan

SGC - I was on a waiting list until 6 months and then they had a new midwife joined so they had room for me ...

Re: Birth Plan

Your birthplan seems about right. I had a similar one to yours. But in all honesty, when time is there you will just go with the flow! It is important to let them what your wishes are in regards to pain relief.
I wrote that I only wanted painrelief medication when I really really couldn't take it anymore (I wanted to see how far I could go without any medication). Let's just say next time iA I am very much more open to medication :D

Ps- good luck to you! iA all will go well :-)

Re: Birth Plan

comon you two...now don't make fun of moi... I am a product of this informative and open system :p

Re: Birth Plan

is there any website or software by which you can make such plans ?

Re: Birth Plan

^ yes I used a template that can be found on the baby centre website....just wanted to make sure nothing was missed

Re: Birth Plan

But a template is a template you know - which wont guide you much , I was more or less talking about a software which will take your from A to Z and provide expert guidance as well ..

is there something in the market like that ?

Re: Birth Plan

Oh I had a birth plan. It went well with me and I am glad I had one.I also put that I don't want any male doctors or attendants arpound unless it was an emergency and they respected that.

Re: Birth Plan

this is a useful website

http://www.nhs.uk/Planners/pregnancycareplanner/Pages/BirthPlan.aspx

i made a birth plan and the midwife really respected my decisions that i had written down. she followed them all the way through!

eg i didn’t want forceps to be used but if needed didn’t mind vacuum or i wanted to tear naturally instead of having an episiotomy etc etc.

Re: Birth Plan

Thanks !
